Anyone have any info or photos about A-10 tail number 80-0222??? This aircraft was assigned to the 343rd TFW, Eielson AFB, Alaska. I was the crew chief assigned to this aircraft from 1986 to 1989. I'd sure like to know if she is still flying and where.

Your Hawg is still flying but with Battle Creek. I know I have some pictues somewhere...if no one else posts any I will look tonight and see what I can find. I do have the door art it carried in 2002...

We call her "The Duck" at battle creek. It currently has no doorart but the previous pic to the one posted was dark wing duck.
It currently has no CC either but the job is being hired. It's had a really bad history of breaking hard whenever we take it anywhere. We usally call it our mobile bench stock!
It did fly very well during OIF though!!

Breaks hard is an understatement! #1 engine aft thrust mount failed and the crew chief found the engine laying down against the aft cowl during his BPO, gun exploded causing a couple of months of depot maintenance and the RH MLG axle snapping off while taxiing on to the runway! She's been the test bed for catastrophic failures!

Wow! I know there was a tail 79-0222 at DM with the same reputation. I spoke to that a/c's crew chief in 1987 when I was TDY to DM.... When I worked The Duck is was an outstanding aircraft.... But then I worked it less than six years off the assembly line...... I'd love to get some photos.... Can anyone help?

Dice,
The Duck is in reference to the 172nd FS patch. The aircraft actually got the nickname "The Duck" at Eielson and it carried over here. I was told at one time why it got that nickname but it escapes my "steel trap like" memory at this moment.

The cheesehead doorart was put on at B.C. about 6years ago or so. Before that was "Darkwing Duck". I'll have to search for a picture of that cause I couldn't find it on your website?
I don't remember what was on it when it came from Eielson?

When I worked the aircraft I was told by the "older" crew chiefs that a series of 2's in poker was called a "duck" hence the nickname... I've never heard of that since.....

That's pretty spooky, according to my records 79-0222 was lost in July of 1983. Perhaps the ghost of that plane haunts the hanger!

Wasn't 79-0222 a Bentwaters bird? I was there in July 83, was that the mid-air?

The mid-air was in Dec 83. I think July 83 was the guy who landed in the farmhouse in Germany after reacting one too many times to the F-4.
