Those helmets are for the New AIM9x system JHMCS that are fielding out various airframes in the USAF/USN/USMC inventory.

Cheers for the info 'Thug'
Makes sense because I've since noticed the 'Reaper' F-15C drivers with them as well.

Only a link to the latest Warthog related USAF news release "Training keeping Spangdahlem `Warthogs´ ready to deploy": http://www.af.mil/news/story.asp?storyID=123011354

And here is the small version of one of the three associated hi-res photos:

Note the rough terrain around the taxi way and the "European style" aircraft shelter in the background!

I see the F-16s are from the 22nd FS. I was in that squadron when they had F-15's at Bitburg. "The big 22, last of the red hot fighter squadrons"

You can't be considered a failure if someone can use you as a bad example.

They started fielding two years ago. I worked on the project as a Test Pilot/Test Engineer back in the late 90's 2 USAF Squadrons had the trial "Beta" units since 1999. The helmet slowly evolved into what is seen today as the current product. The purpose was to get field testing and adjustments made becasue of the uniqness of each Fighter platforms electronics and symbology used in the avionics. This also allowed the end users to make suggestions into polishing up the current product.

The system is vastly superior ahead of foriegn counterpart Helmet mounted cuing systems.
