Tomorrow is my last day with the A-10 after a 14 year association. I’ve done everything from crewing a jet on the line, expediter, production super, flight chief, HQ/ACC maintenance liaison, and for the past year equipment specialist.

This is bitter-sweet for me because, without going into details, the program is having some troubles right now that I got caught in the middle of but, on the other hands I have loved supporting this airframe and the people in the field. I will take my last trip to the flight line tomorrow before turning in my line badge so I can processes out on Thursday. I've had a linebadge for over 24 years and the flightline has been my second home...it will be strange not to be able to go "on the line" when ever I want.

I know I'm in better shape than a lot people in this world but, I can't help but be a little sad and feel a bit sorry for myself...sorry for that.

Salute to the A-10 community and I’ve had fun the past 14 years. This will be my last post on the subject, I'm now an X A-10 maintainer.

It's a sad moment for you but the Hog will keep flying for many more years and the community needs more people like you to support and promote the A-10. Some priorities will change in the next few weeks but you will come back stronger! Put the Hogpen on the shelf if you have to. Hawgsmoke 2006 is not too far away and to attend should be your goal. Hope you like Heineken!

All the best to you!

Been there, done that, felt that Dice and I had you by 10 years. The Hog community has lost a lot of good people over the years, people that will be impossible to replace..and I count you among them. God speed Dice man.

Bullshit, Dice. Unless we are never going to see you on this forum again, you aren't leaving the Hawg family. It just ain't happening.

But if your new adventures bring you to the Alamo city, give me a shout. We can sit around and drink margaritas and talk about our favorite airplane.

Godspeed, my friend!

Cheers! M2

Dice, Sorry to hear of your departure from the flightline. There is no group in the USAF I respected more than the troops who provided first-class jets day after day, month after month, year after year and the "HAWG FIXERS" were the "best of the best". I might add , YOU are a major link in the success of this forum and hope you will stay engaged. Until then and as you leave the flightline the last time..let me snap to attention and render a well deserved SALUTE!

Like MajorMadMax said, just 'cause you're leaving the flightline doesn't mean you're leaving the A-10 world.

Hey Dice, best of luck in the future. Don't think of it as a chapter closing, rather a new one starting.

If you're footloose and fancy free then you should join Pete and me up at Boise for a day next month! It's an easy drive from your neck of the woods.

And as Philippe said, be sure to make plans for a short vacation in Tucson next Spring!

Very strange day to say the least Fender! There was shock from some whom I've been working with the past 8 years (in the SPO) and others avoiding me.

I left at 1100 and went to the NCO club and sat outside by the pool (wonderful day 75 degrees and sunny) and had a few beers. I then came home put a Alice Cooper DVD in, popped a few more cold ones, and rocked for the rest of the afternoon.

Today it's fill out the unemployment paperwork and start doing suff, like orginizing my files, I've been putting off.

As I left they were still saying they were going to get a contract through to extend us until 30 Nov. but, I've heard that talk before and have seen nothing but talk so....

Even if they got a contract until Nov I would still "bail" to the first GS/WG job that came along. I have a "few" friends left on base and they are helping me when they can, just have to keep plugging away with the resumes.
