Ok, so here is my humble opinion......
<img src=newicons/anim_puke.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_furious.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_blackeye.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/Whatever_anim.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/spit.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_shock.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/saevil.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/madani.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_dissapprove.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_dead.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle>

(All the above meaning I disapprove)
Here I was hoping the Hawg to finally get a touch of the limelight, and all the <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> director does is <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> it up!!
First of all, the main scene for the hog is it firing on our own troops, creating a friendly-fire incident. Other than that it is only shown doing a bomb run from a distance for about 5 seconds.
Second, he obviously wasn't worried about accuracy, as the hog's engine sound was that of a lawn-dart, not a high-bypass. <img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle> And the gun sounded like some rickety thing out of an old John Wayne movie!! <img src=newicons/anim_puke.gif border=0 align=middle>
This movie was nothing but Hollywood trying to push it's anti-war agenda, devaluing the very troops defending his right to produce pieces of <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> like this!! It made the military seem like a bunch of bumbling, masturbating, incompitent, masturbating, irresponsible bunch of masturbating half-witts!! (Did I mention masturbating??) Well so did he....repeatedly. You even get to watch a guy do just that! OH BOY!!!!
And as far as creativity goes, there wasn't anything in this movie we didn't see in Full Metal Jacket or Saving Private Ryan. There was about 3 minutes of actual battle action, and the rest of the 2 hrs was showing how the director has no respect for the military, and that he thinks every guy that went over there who had a wife or girlfriend got cheated on. They focused on every mistake made, and gave no honor whatsoever!
Did I mention I didn't like the movie???? <img src=newicons/anim_puke.gif border=0 align=middle>
So that's my opinion after putting up with that BS for 2 hrs. I am so pissed that I would love to go on and on about it, but don't want to "spoil" it for those of you who will see it.
I will say that coming out of the theater I felt ashamed of having giving this director my $ and the credit of a ticket sale. Somebody should just strap this guy to a maverick and fire away!! <img src=newicons/icon_hog.gif border=0 align=middle>

I got heads-up last night about it from the Brother and Sis -in-Law,

They know enough about GW1 and the A-10 to know that was a "Mistake" but it never out WEIGHED THE HOG'S WORK in the WAR.
They said their was alot of <img src=newicons/madani.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle> about the movies plot and what was wrong with it.
They did see a couple of Folks get-up and WALK-OUT <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=newicons/madani.gif border=0 align=middle>LOUDLY!

So I'll keep my $$ and go see Harry Potter when it comes out.<img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle>

Dude I will put them in an envelope today, no right now for that matter. Amie and I are leaving for Arlington in the morning for Dillons burial and it is hard to pack and clean with three boys around.

I was let down, but not as much as you, HogDog. The part in basic training was OK, like you said, nothing you couldn't get from FMJ, but I enjoyed that part anyway. I would have been alot happier if the A-10 wasn't in the movie at all, seeing as how terrible those scenes were. I thought Jamie Foxx/his character was very good, but the other Marines were very stereotypical. It was not the movie the preview made you think it was.
Overall, I give it a C+.

Interesting sidenote: Every Saturday night, me and two friends go to a hockey game, and then the movies. Every time the Ice Dogs (the home team) lose, the movie we see is awesome. Every time they win, the movie is terrible. Losing night movies have included Robots, Sin City, and Sahara. Winning nights have included White Noise and Darkness.
The Ice Dogs won tonight, 4-1.

I will agree Jamie Fox actually did ok, the 1st serious role I've seen him in(I didn't see Ray). That did surprise me. I didn't know he was in it, and when I first saw him, I thought, "you've got to be kidding". But by the end I was impressed with his performance.
Definitely not the movie I was hoping. Maybe that was why I was so let down. I have a ex-Marine friend that saw it that said you had to be a Marine to understand it. Maybe so, but I think the message it is sending to civilians is a bit wrong. But that's just my opinion. And I'm sticking to it. <img src=icon_smile_angry.gif border=0 align=middle>

I have yet to see this, but will sooner or later. Snipe...you seen it yet? Whats your take? Currious what another grunt would say. HotDog, like your Ex-Marine freind said, you have to be one to understand. For those who have never been Infantry, kinda hard to explain what life is like serving.

I see an average of 40-60 movies a year, and I base all of my decisions to see the move based on the preview. 99% of the time, I am correct in my prediction of how the movie will be based on the preview. Jarhead was one the the 1%. When I saw the preview for it, man, I could not wait to see thsi movie,. I thought for sure it would be one of the best movies I'd see all year. I was sure of it, there was no way this movie couldn't be awesome. I was very let down. It was not half as good as I'd hoped it would be. As for all the things they did because they were so bored, I can't really comment on that. Remember, the flying in that war was almost non-stop. The ground war was 100 hours. So the Air Force kept pretty busy. What would you do if you were in the Army or Marines and stuck in the desert for how many months with not a thing to do. I do remember that we did pit camel spiders and scorpions against each other in Kuwait though.

I am not saying that life over there wasn't boring at times, and I have no idea what really took place over there, I wasn't there. I just have a problem with a movie that focuses ONLY on the negative aspects of our troops, and shows no good that they did. I've had exposure to many Iraqi people over here, and not one of them wishes we didn't liberate.
And what I'm a little concerned about is this movie only adding fuel to the media's fire for the people who buy all that the media says, and thinks that they know everything that goes on because "that's what was on the news...."
Too many Americans take the media as total and complete truth, when, at best, it might be 50%.
For those of us who know better, this movie will only make that situation worse.
Bad things happen in war, and mistakes are made. But should those mistakes be glorified in the media more than the good that is done? When our 2,000th troop died recently, all the paper could say was, "Oh my God! Look! 2,000 Americans have died because of Bush's war!"
How about bringing up the fact that we have saved more Iraqi lives than that, and when was the last time America fronted a war for this long and only had 2,000 casualties???
Not trying to devalue the lives we have lost, but honestly, for a war, 2,000 is better than you can hope for.

To those we lost, <img src=newicons/smiley_salute.gif border=0 align=middle>

To those who disrespect them, <img src=newicons/spit.gif border=0 align=middle>

I agree, it was definitely told from a negative point of view. Had the movie been narrated/told from the point of view of Jamie Foxx's character, it would have been a much better movie.

Well I was over at the Marine Corps Forum and Military.com and found out something interesting. They real Marines over there like the movie. Not sure why however the fact a former Marine wrote the book the movie is based on may have something to do with it.

After talking to an ex-Marine friend of mine who saw it, he thought it was ok, and I'm thinking the reasoning is because he could relate to a lot of the BS that happens in the Corps. Like the sitting around and doing nothing after they psych you up to go kill something, and the equipment not being worth a damn, and how guys really do stupid things when they get bored. So, I'm sure the accuracy of a lot of what happened in that movie was right on (EXCEPT, of course, the hawg scenes), and I think him being able to identify with so much of it overshadowed the political statement it appears to make to the civilian folks. <img src=newicons/Whatever_anim.gif border=0 align=middle>
