Hello! I found this site on the web, and was in Hog Heaven. My first Warthog was actually an "Dynaflight" Toy. Although I didn't get to fullfill a dream as a pilot..I still am an avaition fan..espcially of my favorite Airplane the A-10. I saw my First A-10 up close at Air Show in Oklahoma City..I knew about the gun..read about the gun..but to see just how big it was sticking out of this planes nose amazed me. Hope Civilians are welcome.. Hogs4ever "Beauty is in the eyes of the Beholder" |

Welcome to the forum Hogs4ever. Any fan of the A-10 is welcome here. They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order. |

Welcome, Hogs4Ever! And you'll have to excuse Dice, he seems to be living out a second(or third?) childhood.... Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a GAU-8A at your side, kid...--Hawg Solo |

Thanks for the warm welcome. I must confess I am looking for a An Avatar of an A-10 avatar of "da Gun" in action..for the left. I ran into someone on a board I will not disclose (for the saftey of that board having a Maverick fired into it) that suggested the Hog needs a replacement and needs to be "stealthy". I was quite flustered Nonetheless. The holy grail of message boards would be to have a smilie flying an A-10..still looking for that to respond to my "other fellow boardmember" who pays no respect to the Warthog. Hogs4Ever |

Having said that the big question is what kind (design wise) of aircraft is the best replacement?? The answer to this question depends on your CAS philosophy. Do you want an aircraft that can operate and survive ’low and slow” like the A-10 has the past 20 years or, do you believe the aircraft must operate “medium to high” level to survive using stand-off, smart, weapons?? If you read articles from OIF/OEF you will see the term CAS used with aircraft such as the B-52 and the F-15E, are these CAS aircraft? I do not believe stealth is a major requirement for a CAS aircraft but a feature needed by A2A and bomber type aircraft. Ugly But Well Hung |

The development of the A-10C to keep the Hogs flying till the 2020's is amazing feat in itself. I think recent combat Operations in Iraq and Afghanistan demonstrate the need for a low and slow dedicated CAS aircraft. The problem is the Airforce I doubt could afford a specialized single role aircraft in the future. Which worries me, because I don't get the impression that the Fast Movers the Air Force does like can provide support like the A-10 has. Hogs4ever "A realist yes.." |
