I was just wondering why the USAF and USN are not involved in the FMRAAM(meteor) Bvr missile program. Why is this not a priority. The r-77 adder outranges the amraam by 50km. Is there a solution? |

the only solution is not believing the stated ranges of AMRAAM vs Adder!! The problem with long range missles hasn't changed since the very first Phoenix, long range ID of the target is the problem. And when the Navy ship shot down that airliner back in the 80s it sure didnt get any better from a decision making standpoint. They're also purportedly working on a scramjet version of the AMRAAM. A sucking chest wound is life's way of telling you to slow down... |

Boomer has somehting with not trusting the Adder info. In regards to their off-boresite AA. They wind up shooting their wingman, or so I've heard. |

Well i hope for our pilot's sake that all this info is correct. It will be interesting to see what goes on with the Meteor missile program. I saw the ISD as something like that but if the problems with long range missiles are of this nature then it might slip farther back. I also hope the adder's range is not what is stated because the adder is being sold all over the place. Of most noticeable concern would be china with su-30MKI's with adder. Also, does anyone know if the su-30's radar outanges the f-15c o f-15e in tracking mode? thanks. |

The R-77E (AA-12) has a range of 31 miles. The AIM-120C-5 has a 46 mile range last time I checked. Now niether would be fired at those ranges anyways. |

'They're also purportedly working on a scramjet version of the AMRAAM" It's called 'SCRAMRAAM'. Official title name is AMRAAM VFDR(Variable Flow Ducted Ramjet). "Trample the wounded, hurdle the dead." |

AMRAAM is already a Mach 4+ missile. The idea is to get the speed to more like Mach 6+. "Trample the wounded, hurdle the dead." |

Wow, faster than the Phoenix. It would still leave a trail though, right? The Phoenix didn't leave a trail cause by the time it reached the target all the fuel had run out and it was gliding from 100,000 feet. "Retreat, hell!
