What would happen if you put ceramic heat shielding on a B-1, and installed the SR-71's engines? "Some pup" Nickname by Fenderstrat72 |

most likely you would be arrested,as the AF tends to frown on un-approved modifications. on an only slightly more serious note the B-1Bs F101-GE-102 engine produces 30,780lb thrust per engine. The SR-71s P&Ws J58s produce about 32,500lbs per engine. What do YOU think would happen? The HABUs speed has less to do with raw thrust, and more to do with great aerodynamics of the airframe and the re-routing of airflow around the engine core at high speeds. The J58s act almost like a ramjet once up to speed. "We sleep safely in our beds because rough men stand ready in the night to visit violence on those who would harm us".
