Matt? I spent 6 years in it. What was your point?

Its a cubicle with wings. Very high workload, even with all its automation. It allows a seasoned warfighter to wreak serious havoc, but for the rookie, well, it will give your flight lead comfort in knowing that everyone else in your flight see's what your doing and vice versa.

In all honesty it is pretty scary realization of the the datalinking capability of this aircraft coupled with a theater wide planning system.

You could host your own private war.

So I take it no rookie is getting this plane right out of flight school.

im sure them idiots at AFPC will slip a couple rookies in there.

There is no way around it. You cant have all Maj. LtCol.'s flying the jets, or else it would be the National Guard!

I must say that the CFT's hung on the Raptor looked very out-of-place.

Yeah, and in twenty years all that technology will fit into my TI-85 calculator.<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>

THose are just Gas bags dude, CFT's are conformal gastanks Basically modled to shape of the aircraft.

CTF= Combined Test Force, in the past it was the Raptor improvement program.

Mudd, I can't play those videos from here. Could you describe the goings-on?

Right click "Save Target As"

Columnation of in flight enviromental exposure, Sprayed ICeing from a tanker, High Alpha Flight, Weapons Employment in all manuever conditions. Pretty much a recap of the past 5 years of Operational Test Conditions.

Much of what is in here is PR related media that the AF and Lockmart use in the program reviews and advertisments.

What I wasn't that impressed about the AoA testing.

I was more visually awed in the demos of how the SH can swing its nose around and make those tight banks.

At sea level..give me a break.

Take that plane up to 50K and try that shit, it will never happen in a conventional fighter....ever.

I am aware of that, at 50K.
The air pressure is just way too thin.

Can the Raptor mimic those same SH acrobatics at that level?
Perception would tell me no because of the shape of the wing design; it appears that it's designed for optimized supersonic performance.

Your totally Discounting the TVC and Computers, add in the effects of a "lifting body".

All of this is really mute.

If you are tacticaly week as an Aviator, the raptor may have a unique capability in flight to give you freedom of "enlightment"

The truth is. Combat manueverability is only a last resort design in the raptor.

Tactical planning is the purpose of this aircraft, If you end up in the merge, you have tactically dicked up in a big way and have expended uneeded risk and logistics in the battlespace.

The strength of the System is only as strong as the Pilots capabilities.

Having the best aircraft known to man is a priveledge.

I place my life in the hands of People.

Warriors define the capability of hardware and not the other way around.

I've remembered you stated in earlier posts of showing a merge as an example of a tactical screw-up.

As far as the acrobatics topic, it was just out of curiousity in the aerodynamics aspect of the two. I wasn't really intrested on the dogfight 1v1 theme.

I am very clear that the priority is to have a sort of, "third eye/sixth sense", when it comes to designing a modern lethal weapon system whether it be flight or land.

Thanx again for the vids.
I was getting tired of seeing the same stock footage over and over when ayone did a piece on the new bird.

I always tell my students that we (Hawgs) carried 2 Aim 9M-9's but that if I ever had to exit the notch, pitch-in with flares, somebody else wasn't doing their job. Same thing applies here. With the awesome technology of the Raptor I would hope it would never come to thrust vectoring and turn rates. To be honest, I'm a tactical infant compared to Mudd, but in my limited experience I never saw an Eagle forced to turn with anybody, Red Flag, Cope Thunder, you name it. Though if they ever send 2Lt's to the Raptor out of SUPT, I could see it coming to that one rare occasion. I saw some pretty funny things outta young Viper wingmen, and I have yet to fly with a student who could handle a Raptor straight outta JSUPT...

None at JSUPT. We talk a little about it near the end. They do 4 rides just before graduation where we teach them entries to extended trail from different aspects. It's very basic BFM, floor awareness, fuel awareness, etc. But we're not technically qualified to teach BFM, so it's "aggressive extended trail". Basically we teach the studs to stay in the bandit's control zone no matter what he does...
