Can any of you guys at AMARC ID what these planes are that I have marked "mystery jets"? That is a difficult question. Never been there, but saw this picture few months ago. But when I have to guess, I say F-89 Scorpions. This sort of pictures are great to see if you can reconize planes. Salute and succes with your question. Dutchy Termites do it in the dark! (47FS Barksdale afb) |

I suspect they are T-33's. <img src="http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/457/bgnrjsiiw81q1gc.jpg" border=0> You can't be considered a failure if someone can use you as a bad example. |

Have to agree with M&M. The F-89 went out of the inventory 40 years ago, the P-80 longer than that. The Canadians are still flying the T'bird so it would make sense to keep a few around. OC |

They are also used as target drones. When zoomed way in it looks like T-33 but the tip tanks look too large, that's what has us wondering cause the scorpion had those huge rocket launchers on the tips, but the hoz stab looks wrong for F-89! The F-94 looks much more like a T-33 than the F-89 does. But I stand on my original statment that it appears to be a T-33/ <img src="http://img117.imageshack.us/img117/457/bgnrjsiiw81q1gc.jpg" border=0> You can't be considered a failure if someone can use you as a bad example. |

Got my A&P Completed . Ok I'll take the 6 OV10A's please. T-33s. The 33 does have large tip tanks. And that part of AMARC there's a good number of 33s remaining. There's certainly not that many F-89s, if any at all, at AMARC. In fact, I don't believe there are any remaining, now that I think about it. F-105s are gone, F-106s are nearly gone. There's a couple of 102s, but that's about it for the old stuff. |

And did you have access to the Fabled AMARC while you were down there?! Jeez, you don't take me to the range, I find out you know far too much info about AMARC to be a gate gazer, what's next!!! <img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> If I remember right those are 33's. My bro-in-law and I did a little 4X4 around the perimiter. |

They are T33's trust me I see them every day.There are no 102's left and there is one 105 live to wrench,wrench to live and 727's do truly suck |

I can see a bunch of T-39's grouped around their too,That 737 wouldnt that be a T-43 or T-47 ? I get the numbers confused, they had those stationed a Mathers AFB Ca San Fran in the 80's Plus the good OLE Varks,sorry to see those Varks in the yard. T-37's and that must be a T-38 stuck between the Vark with tanks and the T-39 to its right. To the top of the T-33's are those Martin Sub chasers? and C-123's? I'm trying to remember also back in 86 one of the Alaskan Bases had a squadron of T-33(F-80)'s for flying time. We ran into them at GrandForks AFB ND 11/86 When we were part of an ORI for ADF F-15's along the border playing Commie bombers. I think I still got pics,I'll look. Plus I see those F-4's stuck in those f-106's but what is that jet right behind the RB-57 BETWEEN F-106'S looking towards the RB-57? is it a F-8 or an A-7? looks too long for an A-7. you are correct, Goose....F-8, among the F-106's...and just off the RB-57's left wing a couple of P-2 Neptunes...look at the shadow of the tail and you can see the anti-sub tail extension...sad to see these proud old birds awaiting execution...I drove by AMARC on Kolb Road home every night for 3 years at D-M. It was early B-52's B-47's and B-36's back then along with F-104s, early F-4's and F-8s along with old trash haulers that dominated the landscape Col R. C. Lemon |

Those were good old planes, I miss the old CT-39A&B'S TOO,no telling how many of those birds I worked on. The 2 I crewed our on display,1 at Travis AFB The Travis bird is a ET-39A 62-4476 from Yokota AB AFCC,My very First Jet as DCC and the other I think is still at Dryess AFB TX is a CT-39A 61-0634 from Scott AFB,my very first Jet I crewed as an ASST CrewChief. .We had 11 T-39'S at Scott AFB before they gave the contract to the C-21's plus got rid of the C-140A Jetstars AFCC . I could get lost looking at old Jets for hours Thanks Col,,by the way Sir, didnt you Command one of the A-10 tfs at EAFB LA During the 80's? Indeed I did, Goose....74TFS from Nov83-Nov85. Before that Ops Officer in the 75th and Ass't Ops Officer in the 76th. By the way blessed by the best maintenance in the Air Force in all three AMU's...Air Force agreed with the USAF Daedalian Award for the top maintenance in the USAF during that stretch.Made it easy to train and deploy when we knew the jets would be delivered EVERY DAY in top notch condition. I was Wing Commander at Alex when BRAC closed it and was the last guy outta there in Dec 1992 except for the BRAC Property disposition people who were there to coordinate movement of property or give it to the England Authority for civilian use....In my estimation we closed down the best place to fly and work on fighters in America....but alas, time marches on, but the Warthog endures!! Col, I use to do "HOTPITS" for the 76th AMU ,I hit Alex in 4/85 and was in the 76th AMU. I did alot of Blue Tails too you more than likely were in my "PIT" once or twice <img src=icon_smile_cool.gif border=0 align=middle> I was just thinking of the Hurricane heading for Orlean's and that 85 Hurria-vac to Topeka KS That August/Sept. That was a BIG FORMATION of Hogs! I remember ltCol Copper and then ltCol Renuart(2**) Both good Op's commanders,I know I met you sometime during that time period. My Brother-in-law you probably know he helped with the close down too "Msgt Banks". I'll agree it was one of the best A-10 wings in its day.
