Yeah but lets give the Bendix Corporation a hand for the hefty gear. I know they also made the gear on F-14's. Tree trunks I tell ya. I dont like anything french <img src=newicons/spit.gif border=0 align=middle> but Bendix makes a great set of legs.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Didn't see it live, but watched the feeds on BBC.

Any of you notice they let the pilot off first.

I wonder if this was so he could change his shorts...

Credit to the crew for handling it well, but I agree with Hawg, I've seen a lot of programmes showing the construction and testing (mostly to distruction) of civilian airliners.

What that front gear went through was just another day on the test rig to it.

Easy fix....swap out the nose strut. I would be surprized if it wasnt fixed already.

Hope they got real good pics of the nose gear before it landed to get SOME idea of what went wrong, cause all the evidence right now is about the size of onion seeds lol

I would suspect that the centering mechanism is well above the point that was turned to hamburger. There will be enough to tell what happened. I would almost guess they have a trouble shhoting procedure for just such an occurance.

I saw that live as well. The flight crew did a good job. I was under the impression that there was a procedure to "foam" the runway in that situation. I read an article about a B-58 that lost the tires from its starboard landing gear and they "foamed" the runway to reduce the friction on landing.

Those A320s need a damn fuel dump system. Great job by the aircrew and subcontractors, shitty job by the frenchies at Airbus who designed her.

Great Job landing that Jet.

I saw a A-10 land like that, the pilot did a "F-15" touch down till the hog was just to a slow roll dropped the nose gear and the "Centering cam" activated and the gear responded.
The nose tire had a "Hell'va" flat spot but it was a pretty good show.

saw it live also! great pilot!

here are some jokes

Leno

As you know, NBC has been premiering their new fall lineup this week. So far our highest rated show was "Jet Blue: The Landing”.

I’m sure you all know that amazing story how they circled over the ocean to burn off fuel. They used thousands of gallons of fuel to fly just 18 miles from Burbank to L.A. Here’s the amazing part - they still used less gas than an SUV.
