THE GOOD OLD COTTON FATIGUES,WASH THEM IN DOWNY AND YOU HAD "PJ'S" FOR 3RD SHIFT <img src=icon_smile_sleepy.gif border=0 align=middle>

PREM-PRESS FATIGUES,DIDNT TIP THAT YOU WERE SLEEPING ON 3RD SHIFT,BUT DOUBLE STARCH EITHER SET AND YOU COULD MAKE A "CREWDAWG" LOOK
"SHIT-HOT!" PLUS WHEN THE NEW COMBAT STEEL TOE BOOTS CAME OUT,A BOTTLE OF "MOP&GLOW" AND A COTTON BALL YOU ALWAYS GOT A 9 APR FOR LOOKS.

BDU'S, LOVED THEM STILL,LOOKED GOOD EITHER PRESSED OR NOT,THOSE DAMN BUTTONS DROVE ME CRAZY,SO THE EX PUT VELCRO ON EVERYTHING,SEW THE BOTTOM JACKET POCKETS DOWN,TOOK THE PLEATS OUT OF THE SHIRT POCKETS,,
ALSO TOOK THE PLEAT OUT OF THE CARGO PANTS POCKETS,JUST SEW EVERYTHING MORE FLATTENED BUT USABLE,PLUS THE "SHORT SLEEVE SHIRTS"
SHE FIGURED OUT A WAY TO TAKE A COUPLE OF SHIRTS AND MAKE THEM SHORT SLEEVED BY CUTTING HERE AND THERE AND SEWING THE ROLL CUFF BACK ON.

I KNOW IT WAS AGAINST REG'S ,BUT MOST EVERYONE WANTED THE SAMETHING TOO,SHE STAYED BUSY.

McPEAKS FOLLY,THAT DAMN DRESS UNIFORM,IF YOU DIDNT LOOK LIKE A GREYHOUND BUS DRIVER BEFORE,YOU DID NOW,CHANGING THE COLLAR PINS AND THE OTHER LITTLE CRAP JUST REALLY SUCKED,BUT FOR PILOTS,YOU COULD GO RIGHT TO WORK FROM THE USAF TO AMERICAN WITH THOSE BANDS ON THE SLEEVES,IF I REMEMBER RIGHT HE SAID "SOME WE LOOK MORE LIKE OUR "CIVILIAN COUNTER-PARTS"
BUT THEN YOU THROW IN GETTING RID OF BUCKSGT THAT WAS WRONG, THE TOP 3 WEARING ROOFS WAS A GOOD IDEA.

AT HOME YOU SHOULD HAVE THE BDU'S,WITH PATCHES ALL THAT STUFF,MAKES A UNIT PROUD,WHATS THE POINT OF BADGES THEN IF YOU GET RID OF PATCHES?
IF YOU GET RID OF THE PATCHES,I GOT STUCK ON THAT MY LAST YEAR,AND ONLY HAD THE NAME TAG TAG BLOCK,THEN YOU THINK THEY WOULD JUST USE THEM AGAIN.
"MAYBE IT HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH OUR "UNOFFICAL TAG'S"? I HAD ONE THAT SAID "GOOSE" ON MINE WITH EVERYTHING ELSE.

BUT AT HOME HAVING POLISHED BOOTS,I AGREE IT SHOWS YOU SOMETHING ABOUT THE PERSON.
I LEARNED AFTER 10YRS HOW TO SPIT SHINE IN SAUDI,WAITING FOR JETS TO COME HOME,SHOWS YOU WHAT YOU DO FOR ENTERTAINMENT WHEN THERE'S NO BEER OR FISHING LAKES AROUND.

DID I BREAK SOME OF THE RULES,YES,BUT DID IT SHOW,NO AND I HAD MY DEPLOYMENT BAG WITH MY REG,UNIFORMS ALWAYS PACKED.

BUT I AGREE CHANGING UNIFORMS AT THIS PLACE AND TIME,MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL EXCEPT SOMEONE NEEDS A JOB ON A COMPANY BOARD WHEN THEY RETIRE.

GOOSE

Not to beat a dead horse, but here is my take on this new uniform. If they are going to "save us money" by taking away the patches, why stop there, go back to the temporary way we did it under McPeak and just use the Aircrew style nameplate. Of course, leave the stripes so the poor officers will be sure to get saluted. That was the first thing that came back last time. Don't get me wrong, I would much rather keep my patches, but lets not do things halfa$$ when we do it. I'm OLD school Air Force. I would rather them bring back the old green fatigues that I came into the Air Force with. I was one of the "holdouts" when we switched to the current BDU's. The biggest reason was the price jump in switching to BDU's. I wore my green fatigues until the last day they were authorized. During that transition, I gradually bought a few sets of BDU's and had them set up. Fortunately, by the time this new uniform is mandatory, I will be retired, so once again I will proudly be a holdout. You'll easily recognize me because I will be one of the only ones running around with our current BDU's while everyone else is wearing the "modern" digitized BDU's. At least I get to keep my patches until I retire!!!

Hell of allot better looking than the satines I had in 83 and the 3 Tone Deserts I had in GW1.

So what did the brass said was the problem with current woodland BDUs that it's SO important to drop money to replace them NOW?

Pork, IMO.

Regards DCUs, I liked the old 6-color Deserts I used to have with the green nametapes, ranks, and badges. The old chocolate chips that the Iraqi Army is wearing. Liked them better than the 3-color current ones.

I'll agree T-7 ,I liked the 6 color desert cammo but you stuck out like a sore thumb on the EURO-1 Hawgs.

Actually if the Air Force wanted to save money they'd go with the Army's new ACU (Army Combat Uniform). With two services using the same uniform the price would be lower as the government would buy more, thus the bulk discount. Based on what the new Army uniform looks like it could be done. We could move our rank to the chest like the Army or we could leave on the sleeves as there is more than enough velcro there. I am disapointed that the new AF uniform will be sans unit patches. I guess only the flight suit types will get to kep the patches. There you go another class issue. The Army uniform does have some really good features, pockets on the sleves, slanted chest pockets, pockets on the lower leg (calf, zipper and velcro closures on the blouse, mandrian collar that can be worn up or down (protects the neck when wearing body armor) and the pattern and color works in the desert and woodland environment thus only one set of uniforms to maintain. Hopefully the Air Force will come to its senses and gowith the Army uniform instead.

Ok, just my 5 cents and since I'm JUST the crew chief wife that had to iron BDU's , mend them because they are sown by ..well...you insert.
If changes needed to be made for tactical reason..I'm all for it. Wonder who they tested the functionality on???
And who is going to give the troops the money to comply with this new standart?? I remember when shortly after hubby came in, they changed from the all green to the BDU's. It cost us a fortune to get new uniforms, not even counting the ever changing styles of "Blue's".
