How many A-10's have been shot down by another Aircraft? Having some trouble finding if any planes have been lost to Air-to-Air kills...

That is a good question. I never read about an ATA kill. So i think not any A-10 is shot down by another plane. Or i need new books.

I even doubt any A-10 have been downed by a enemy aircraft.
Think that all losses were caused by AA guns, SAMs or technical failures.

I remember one year at Red Flag, 4 out of 5 F-5's got taken out by 4 A-10s. They tried dropping on them from above, but one of the Hawg Pilots spotted them, the Hawgs went to Min. Controlable Air Speed, (dropped gear, opened the speed breaks), and the F-5s leveled out in front of them instead of behind. The wrong place to be, in front of that gun.

The F-5's all fire walled the throttles, 2 broke L, 2 broke R, and one pulled a max climb, he was the only survivor.

As to actual combat, these day's, nobody we fight has airplanes. Or if they do, they don't have the balls to fly them.

Nobody dropped gear in a Red Flag mission. Besides, that is a signal for surrender in the air to air language.

I always thought it was a way to get real dirty real fast, more drag to slow down. Well, learn something new every day. Thanks Coach.

It is a great way to get real dirty, real slow, real fast. And real dead real fast, too.

I remember reading about that particular move in a plane mag I used to get, it's a move that has been around since WW2.

That move may have been around but I guarantee it never happened in an A-10. That's just a silly thing to say...

I've been thinking about what Yojimbo said about 2 Hogs going after a
MIG-23 in DS1,

Its been awhile (Damn Long Time) but I know a few times the \"Hawg's\" were in a area that a \"BOGEY\" showed-up but the \"F-15's\" on CAP \"FLAMED THEM\" before they even got close to them.

But around the same time any of the \"Cajuns\" or \"Nail Facs\" around one of those Squadrons ran into a F-1 Mirage on patrol and since they were low to him they didn't want to engage unless they had too, but that MIRAGE was \"HIGH TAILING AWAY \" from the area ran into the F-15 CAP so they took him down.
They started the Rumor they had \"Flamed a F-1\" in a Dogfight\" because of the encounter.

Thats the \"Only\" encounter I remember.

0166 was Credited with a \"MIG-25\" Destroyed on the ground, in Western Iraq. It was \"Hid\" in a \"Garage\" along a highway not too far from a \"Group of buildings\". The lead ship dropped some CBU's on the buildings due to \"TANKER TRUCKS\" being reported Got some GREAT SECONDARY EXPLOSIONS, so when 0166 went in it had exposed the MIG-25 down the road, so he rolled in and dropped 2 \"CBU's\" and made for a \"PRETTY EXPLOSION \" when it blew-up in \"His Words\"
So they gave him a \"Ground Kill\"

Coach, now \"Root\" got a great hit on a \"AAA\" battery with a MAV on the first day on his first sortie they were going in a 4 ship after Early Warning Systems and he SUPPRESSED their ASS! While the others took out the Radar. He got good \"KILLS\" during the WAR.
