Dice, those 2 shots of 655 were taken at Air Fete 92 at RAF Mildenhall.
I didnt take those, but the shots I have are almost identical.
I do have a close up of the door which I'll send you when I've scanned it in.
The markings on the nose were designed by a local artist called Geoff Pleasance who was commissioned to do many sketches for personnel at the Twinbases.
The design first appeared in about 86 and was carried by 81-981,80-181 and finally 82-655.
When 981 was the CO's jet it was known as Boss Hog on the ladder door with the gun toting Hog design.

Dice, just glad I can help.
I've sent 655's door from 1992.
I also have a couple more including 80-204 from 1991 during its time with the 91st TFS at RAF Woodbridge.

THEN LAST TIGER HAD TO BE 82-2663'S DOOR BECAUSE 82-2662 WAS A 75TH BIRD.
AFTER "BITS" HAD POSTED I STARTED DOUBTING MY MEMORY BUT I REMEMBERED THAT DOOR ART,EITHER HOT-PITS OR TIGER THRUST'S.

THE BAD THING WAS THAT I THINK IN 89 THE 74TH AND 75TH PAINTED ALL THEIR DOORS THE SAME. ALOT OF DOOR ART WAS LOST DUE TO "UNIFORMITY" ONLY THE 76TH KEEP OUR DOOR ART.

PRESS TO TEST

Goose,
you are so right that a bunch of a-10 history is lost when they made us paint or doors. We had some good door art at pope until some of the lawn dart CC's started whining and we had to paint ours. However I feel the greatest injustice was during Gulf I, we were told that if a acft flew a combat mission with the nose art we painted it would stay. However upon returning home after the war and comming back to work after some leave, all the art was gone! We were never given a goods reason why. When the beach shut down they repainted 099's nose art ( a georgia bulldog) and it was put on the pedistal at the front gate. They put a lost pilots name on it and a Crew dog that died from a brain anyurism(sp). I cant remember the names for the life of me, but i feel that our commanders have made some terrible decissions in removing door/nose art. but that could be a complete new thread......hint hint dice!

jusy my .25 cents (inflation ya know)

I had left England AFB by 1988 and most planes had door art. That's ashame that they all had to be painted in 89. If my memory serves me correctly, Glenn Profitt was the Wing Cmdr when I left. If it was his order, that wouldn't surprise me. I don't recall that he was well liked.

Thanks Mudd. JB you remember when the same thing happen at Moody, I belive it was around 96, we were given 2 weeks to paint-over all the door art? I remember Lenny and Mary-Alice (S?) spent some big bucks to have theirs done downtown. I can't remember for the life of me what was on their doors, maybe someone here remembers.

In this case supervision tried to stop it by photograhpicing all the doors and building a package to fight the fact our doors are nose art by reg. Didn't work and the photos ended-up in a trash can!!

I remember Lenny's door art...I believe it was a picture of a POW camp ( or something) with smoke rising out of it with a face in the smoke...may be off a little...but I think that's right...Mary-Alice (man I miss her), I think her door art was of a female warrior, but can't remember for sure...We had a few nice pieces of door art in the 70th. Question, I know this is a sad & touchy subject, but how long did the "V"s last on the doors? I know when I PCSed to Osan (97) they were still on the doors. Our 2nd trip to Al Jaber just sucked, and that's putting it mildly

Paul I think I remember now, didn't the smoke form the POW/MIA flag? I also remember the Vs started dissappering in 1998 and most were gone by the time I left in late 98...boy wish I had a photo of one of those!

For thoes of you who dont know what the "v"'s were ment for, On one of our rotations to Al Jaber phase dock was doing an enginge change, Well we had a guy that wa helping the inlet into the intake, as was a normal practice, well the aft hoist cable broke slinging the inlet ring up and forward hitting Van (Vandenburg) in the head causing massive head traumma. He lived for about 1.5 months before passing on. The V's were a dedication to our fallen commrad that we put on all the doors. Van was an excellent crew dog who would do anything for anyone. He is missed.

Maybe I will photoshop one just so I can tell the story and as a rememrance to Van. Do you guys remember how big the V was, as I remember it was pretty larger?

BTW found a contact at Whiteman who has taken photos of all the door art there, should have them in a few days!!

I would guess that each slash of the 'V' was about 12-14 inches at least.

I will try to make one this weekend and post it so you can take a look and give me feedback.

Found this one on the AF site yeasterday, don't know if it's going to be colored-in or not but it's cool either black and which or color!

Just to clarify, 82-0655 was stationed at Woodbridge and Spang but there is also a 78-0655 which was stationed at Myrtle Beach, Pope, Shaw, and now with NO.

All the info here is about 82-0655 and not 78-0655.

Natural Born Killer is 80-0244, Looks That Kill is 80-0241 and Jaded is on 82-0651. Unfortunately, 241's was just recently painted white. I was talking to a friend about it why and he said that the pilot assigned to it wanted to put something fresh on it, so it was painted over, and then the pilot leaves.
Pil Sung is the 25th's ..hmm, I'm looking for the right word, not motto, I cant think of a proper word, We yell it whenever the 36th is around, and at squadron bbq's whenever someone is given a plaque right prior to PCS'ing... Those kind of occasions. It means "Certain Victory"

And Remember, Crew Chiefs make it happen..... PIL SUNG!
