It seems to me that the local law enforcement in this Tennessee community think strippers at teen age birthday parties is unacceptable behavior by itself, not to mention all the other illicit activities stuff like that will promote.

Illicit activities, like what?

If they have the local support (votes), don't they have the freedom to make and enforce local laws? Are you saying that some form of Federal agency should tell them how to run their community?

Not saying that all. I am saying that the state shouldn't be in the living rooms of each and every person telling them every detail of what they should be doing. Do you support a "thought police" looking over your shoulder of every single thing you do?

quote:

Are they trying to export this "extra" morality to other states? The opposite is more likely.

Nope. Like I said above, the state is trying to force itself into everyone's living rooms. I guess you prefer a more 1984-ish legal system out there. You can keep that.

If it was my community and my teenagers were at this party, I would be kicking ass and taking names. If there wasn't any law against it, there would be soon, as some legislator would see an opportunity to represent me.

Oh please, spare me the freaking morality lesson. That's a great idea.....create more laws inhibiting personal freedom. Your way of thinking is exactly the same ultra-right wing morality-police thinking that seeks to make new laws for everything just so there can be more big government. Who's to say YOUR way should become law, and who the hell are you to DEMAND legislation be made for everyone else based on YOUR likes and desires, with your whole "If there wasn't a law against it, there would be soon." Like it or not, whether in alignment with yours or not, those parents are/were instilling morals of their choosing, as is their right. Who the hell are you to think YOU can strongarm some legislator to make things your way.
With people with your thinking in charge, we'll soon have "your papers please......" at state border checkpoints.

I dont' give a damn about how you raise your kids until it affects how I am trying to raise mine. If you want to give your boy a sex party for a birthday present, then keep me and my kids out of it. Your freedom stops there.

My freedom stops there. And your freedom stops from imposing your will on anyone else.....like trying to make laws with legislators "willing to represent you." No one was forced to be there, no one was being held against their will. Why should others respect your morals when you don't do the same? You made a judgment about the parenting skills of these parents based on nothing more than their contrast with your morals. And that's outright hypocrisy, IMHO. And speaking of creating a law against it, let's discuss that....
I dont think its fair to legislate morals based on a particular religion/belief system. This would say that the government is favoring one over the other which goes against damn near everything this country was founded upon. Just because something doesn't fit in with your morals, doesn't mean its wrong. It just means it is wrong for you. Parents should be able to raise their children as they wish as long as it doesn't hurt anybody.
There are other countries all over the world whre nudity is an accepted part of life, are these places imoral in your eyes as well?
When did seeing someone naked, even in a semi erotic manner become such a big deal - it's only skin. I would certainly like to see the research where it proves that seeing a stripper at the age of 16 means you are going to lack morals, and grow up to be a burden on society.
Whether I agree or not on what these particular parents are doing is immaterial. I do, however, have a HUGE problem with the state being in the homes of everyone more and more and more, especially post 9/11.
In the direction we're headed as a nation [and the direction you seemingly support], we can kiss the American Way as we know it, goodbye.
