I just got done watching the "Real Story of Blackhawk Down" on the History Channel. Man did that leave a sour taste in my mouth. What a complete clusterf*ck. It made me think of our current foreign policy. Why can't this great nation have an IRON FIST IN A SATIN GLOVE? It seems that within the last decade we've actually had a wet herring in an old gym sock! It's really sad that we offer help to chaotic nations and then get stung for it. And what's with initially showing force and then fizzling out when it comes to military actions on the part of the US? Does this nation honestly need to act like an impotent man that comes on strong but finishes weak? All I can say about what happened in Somalia is NEVER AGAIN! We need to BE HARD, BUT FAIR. We need to get better at giving ultimatums...pretty please comply...or get LEVELED. I mean it's not that we hate other people...it's that we won't be used and abused. Oh well. Any thoughts out there??? Just heard about those bombings in Riyadh too. Damn. God bless those overseas right now! Hope they come home safe!!!

While the bombings in Saudi are bad one must put them into perspective. If this is the best that Alqada can do then we are making progress. Maybe this will convince the saudis to lop off a few more heads.

Not trying to be a downer, but a realist. The attack wasn't as bad becuase it might of had scheduling problems, what with American forces leaving Saudi Arabia.

But that does serve as a reminder that appeasement is useless, they'll do what they do anyway.

So much for Al Qaeda's claim that "we only want US forces out of the holy lands".

They are all liars! They will say what they want you to hear and then do what they want. Just look at Yassir Arafat. The Isrealis offered him everything he had ever asked for and he turned it down. The Palestinians (or any Arab "Nation")do not want peace with Israel, or any(supposedly)Christian Nation as far as that goes. They only want to destroy them and then rule over the mess. The bible was true when speaking of Ismael, the father of the Arab nations, when it said his hand will always be against his brother. It has not only been against Israel, his brother, but against every other Arab as well.....

I was probalby a little rash in including all Arabs in the "LIAR" category. My appologies to those who aren't. However, my point still stands in that Muslims hate free countries and anyone who doesn't serve their god.

Well obviously the claim by OBL that he has a dirty bomb, but will only use it as payback for any American nukes...is just that, a claim.

Fun fact about Real Story of Blackhawk Down. It, as well as a PBS special of the same nature. (as well as commentary from MSGT. Eversman, Lt.Col. McKnight (ret). And I think Sgt? Keni Thomas.) Is on a two disk DVD version of BHD. It's either out now, or will be this month.

The mission was a success. The problem was an entire city was armed and it become a helluva of a firefight. It didn't help they had flown the same profile 6 or so times before. Or using nightfighters during the day. Nor did the American CO, give a headsup to the Paki Armor troops that they might be needed.

To blame the loss of 18 men because they didn't have everything they wanted in place is BS. You only launch an operation with what you have in place. Even then, other troops weren't informed of the operation.

We didn't put armor into Afghan either and were still losing troops.

It's those little details that make a difference. Or that choppers above 10,000' really suck. Add in we seemed to have lost way too many MH-130s and MH-60s to pilot error. Heh. I am Navy sourced for piloting, but every MH driver I ever met was damn good.

Hindsight is always 20/20. Should have gotten the warlords together in one place and dropped a Paveway LGB on them.

Well we have a LOT of 'training accidents' every year. Few of them really are.

But the professionals that do that work want it that way too, so i'm fine with it.

The lack of armor in both Somalia and Afdirtistan is beyond stupid though, and smells of politics for differing reasons.

We actually do have a lot of training accidents and operational accidents. Now the question of adding extra dead crew is something else. We have gotten much better since WW2 when we lost 3.5 pilots in training compared to 2 in combat.

IMO, it's not the Pros that have the call. It's not to embarrass the Stars or Pols.

What was the safest combat aircraft in WW2 for the US?
