Federal authorities in the US have revealed that a man from Palm Springs, US has been arrested on charges of bringing two protected newborn Asian leopard cats through Los Angeles International Airport.

Authorities allege that Chris Edward Mulloy brought the cats into the US on a flight from Thailand on 13 June 2002 and also lied for his companion Robert Cusack, <b>who was smuggling two pygmy monkeys through the airport in his underwear. </b>

Mulloy made it past customs agents at the airport, although Cusack was arrested after four birds of paradise and several orchids were found in his baggage. Cusack received 57 days in jail for the smuggling attempt, while the animals were taken to the Los Angeles Zoo.

A spokesman for the US Attorney's office claimed Mulloy, who reportedly hid the leopard cats in his backpack, had slipped through the airport unnoticed, after which is sister arrived to help move the cats.

A case has been filed against Mulloy and his sister, as detailed in a federal indictment in February, with Mulloy facing counts of smuggling, lying to officials and fraudulently concealing a protected species, The Associated Press reported.<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

I have it on good authority that the monkeys in question were of a federally protected species and were not allowed to be spanked.
