It was a bone stock 928S4 that set the record in 1986 at 172.xxx in Bonneville. Here is the video of the Porsche 928S4 setting the world speed record \"For stock production automobiles\"

The stock corvettes could not touch a 928 in any year when the 928 was made, when comparing like years. Not in top speed, handling, or acceleration- and were nowhere even close in braking. The top production ferarri in 1983 when my 928 was made is the 308, a car which a 928 will dominate on the track. (as it will dominate a 328 or an S4 will dominate a 348).
My 928 is not stock, hence the huge HP figures compared to a stock shark of the same year. My 928 is also 450lbs lighter than stock.
Hehe, it's a rocket. Ask Lunatock, Gifted, or Racegal.

Where else are you going to find a top-end exotic V-8 supercar with german engineering and quality for such prices?
Both the guys on \"Top Gear\" love the 928- they both own one themselves.
In one episode, Clarkson pulls up to a lot of all kinds of top end exotics...guess what he drives away in?

ON CORVETTES: From 1985 through to the early 90s the Corvette wasnt even the fastest GM. That distinction was held by first the Grand National, then the GMC Syclone. The ZR1 was an extremely fast car, but is not considered \"production\". Even still, by the time of it's introduction, the 928GT was already around, and it was even faster yet.
