I really wish they would let Crew Chiefs write the captions for pictures of jets. PA always gets it wrong.
969 is not leaving for a little more still, and 944 is one of the lat jets we will lose.

No worse than this other Hawg photo...

Image

Where the caption reads \"Capt. Dustin Ireland fires a missile as his A-10 Thunderbolt II breaks over the Pacific Alaska Range Complex April 24 during live-fire training.\" Someone care to tell me what kind of \"missile\" is being launched?? If you need the full-size photo, it can be seen at:

http://www.af.mil/shared/media/photodb/ ... 2W-206.jpg

And the next sentence in the caption goes: \"The Captain Reynolds is an A-10 pilot from the 355th Fighter Squadron from Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.\" Who in the heck is Captain Reynolds? Maybe he's the WSO!

Cheers! M2

Capt Reynolds and Capt Ireland are both real pilots in our squadron, but I don't think both of them can fit in the jet at the same time

That picture is the beginning of the engine pod ejection sequence as so famously documented in a classically infamous Janes A-10 illustration.

No I'm pretty sure its the same afterburners our jets had when we went \"blazing off to Aviano\" back during Deny Flight.

Do you think it's an attempt to break the sound barrier? Airwolf had simmilar afterburners. (http://www.sf-radio.net/airwolf/bilder/turbo.jpg)

P2

Happy Father's Day to you as well!

And I wasn't doubting that Capt Reynolds is a pilot in the 355 FS, but the caption began talking about Capt Ireland flying the single-seat Hawg, then refers to the pilot as Capt Reynolds. Just another PA SNAFU...much like the alleged "missile launch" in that photo.

Cheers! M2

Now PA is saying some of the jets are going to Mountain Home...

Final flight of the A-10 Thunderbolt at Eielson

The first two A-10's arrived at Eielson on December 18, 1981, while the last two A-10's are set to leave on August 15, 2007 to Moody AFB, Ga., and Mountain Home AFB, Idaho (U.S. Air Force Photo by Airman 1st Class Jonathan Snyder)

We have 3 jets left on the line, I hung tanks on them after they landed on Tuesday. 2 of them flew their tank check sorties yesterday, the other one will check today or tomorrow, as soon as it if FMC.
I was told these 3 are all going to Maryland actually.

Did any of the jets go to the 124th at Gowen Field in Boise? That could be the confusion with Mountain Home, and yet another example of PA doing their homework...

Cheers! M2

We did send a few jets to Boise, but I'm almost positive these last 3 are going to Baltimore.

Grease makes the jet go faster.
259 was the only jet we had that could fire the gun (the jet had to have at least a certain amount remaining on all time change items before transfer) so it's been going nuts lately. It shot a full drum over it's last 2 sorties.

LtCol Rideout was flying 259, as he taxied it back to the pens, there were 2 fire trucks that sprayed it down. The water just made all the gun gas streak and look worse.
Image

Also, the article says
Quote:
The first two A-10s arrived at Eielson Dec. 18, 1981; the last two A-10s are set to leave Aug. 15
implying that of the 3 jets we have left they are leaving as a one-ship, then a 2 ship, but they are all going together as a three-ship. At least they got the date right though.

Don't you know Weasel? Hawgs ain't happy unless they're dirty. It just means they've been out playing in the dirt.

Reminds me of Monsoon season at DM. We used to see the Hawgs come back from the range with mud clods on top of the birds.

To be fair to the journalist, the caption says that they were flying in formation with the tanker for the last time, not flying for the last time period.

Anyone else catch this?
**************************

Russian Bombers Enter U.S. Airspace Undetected. Fully armed Russian long-range strategic bombers flew UNDETECTED into U.S. airspace.

MOSCOW, April 22 (RIA Novosti) - Russian military planes flew undetected through the U.S. zone of the Arctic Ocean to Canada during recent military exercises, a senior Air Force commander said Saturday.

The commander of the country's long-range strategic bombers, Lieutenant General Igor Khvorov, said the U.S. Air Force is now investigating why its military was unable to detect the Russian bombers.

\"They were unable to detect the planes either with radars or visually,\" he said.

Khorov said that during the military exercises in April, Tu-160 Blackjack bombers and Tu-95 Bears had successfully carried out four missile launches. Bombing exercises were held using Tu-22 Blinders.

By the end of the year, two more Tu-160s will be commissioned for the long-range strategic bomber fleet, Khorov said.

Both new planes will incorporate numerous upgrades from the initial Soviet models, the commander said. The bombers will be able to launch both cruise missiles and aviation bombs, and communicate via satellite.

Is America asleep again looks like its time for a boot in someones arse if so! It would appear that are old adversary has been and is up to there old cold war tactics. This is not new or isolated it has been going on for sometime check out the google search result.
