Well I saw 80-0272 this week going through the SLEP line and I'm happy to say the door art is still on it. As you may or may not know this is the oldest door art in the A-10 fleet and maybe the oldest surviving art of all time, over 16 years old now.

The jet is going to Pope (an ACC base) where I believe it will be removed like, \"Running with the Devil\" was a short while back. I wrote a letter to the 23rd PA office giving them the full story on 272 hoping they may be able to save it in someway or another.

I know Pope (and every other A-10 unit) has bigger things to worry about than a piece of door art but, if it's going to be distroyed I at least wanted them to know the whole story behind it. I'll let you guys know when/if I get a responce from them and what the fate of 272's door will be.

On a side note I also saw, and got shots of, 79-0172 (MR. Rogers) and 81-0944 (The Grimlin) which at this point the art is still on the aircraft's doors.

I was reluctant to post about this earlier, b/c I didn't want to bring the spotlight on it, but all the jets from Eielson at Moody still have the door art on them. And five jets not from Eielson have stuff on the doors:

The other two are the ones done in grease pencil, \"Martyr Maker\" and \"Taliban Slayer\". I'll try to remember to get pics of them on Monday

Jackb, could I please get these emailed to me in high rez... pleeeease!

This happen during the last BRAC where ACC units were getting aircraft from other units with door art on them. Last time the doors lasted a year or two but, when people started painting their own designs or when the unit(s) got their first visits from HQ...like during an ORI the doors were axed very quickly. We'll see how long they last this time....... 8)

I got some of them last week, but had to go on an MRT to Tinker on Friday/Saturday. I have tomorrow off, but will try to get the rest of them on Wednesday.
