Well after 2 solid months of terminal leave and at least a month of serious searching I have finally gotten my first interview. The job is not really something I want to do for the long haul but the lack of income dictates I must join the workforce soon or starve.

The first interview, which was today, went well and I have a second one scheduled for Friday.

The job in a nutshell is a factory worker. The company makes medical supplies. One thing I can say is they like old GI's as there are plenty of them working there. One reason is the machine operators also have to do all the maintenance on the machines, unlike most factories that have a maintenance division. Here, you run it, do scheduled maintenance and fix it when it breaks.

The pay is decent, especially for around here. In fact this company is the best paying employer in the county.

We're hiring Fender and we really like \"old GI's\". Of course, it's back to living out of a suitcase but the pay and the hours are a whole bunch better.

Thanks for the positive thoughts everyone.

OC, I would love to take a job like that but I just became a single parent and counld not possibly take a job like that. In fact I just turned down an oppurtunity to take a job that would have sent me to Germany for 8 months because being a single parent dictates what I can and can't do.

8) Glad to see your parenting takes priority over your job--too many people have that backwards these days!! Way to go! :D

Understood Fender. There's no way a single parent can take a job with that much travel which is why when a CFT walks through the door there's two types of workers..those like myself or early twenties types.

Many CFT people wait until the kids are on their own, sell the house and buy a large 5th wheel along with a big dualie diesel to pull it and just bring their house with them.

I could live out of a 5th wheel and enjoy it. Just have to wait a few years for little girl to get off to college.

BTW, I talked to Goose today and he already knows, the interview went really well. I feel pretty confident that I landed the job. Should hear something next Tuesday or Wednesday at the latest.

Congrats!

I was told by the company I work for that they'll be ending my contract early (like the end of March). So I've been looking. There was a job in Spokane that I applied to (twice) while I was still in the AF but couldn't actually do the application process because my MEB/PEB was still ongoing. It's open again and I dropped my resume and an E-mail to the guy that contacted me before.

He E-mailed back about 15 minutes later. A good sign.

Seems a lot of us are playing employment musical chairs. I'll hopefully be back with the bugs this summer, at the location I want, with the company I want, doing the ag research I crave.

Jake, drop me a line if you do end up back in Spokane (this winter's sucked big-time, though).

Good luck, Fender!

I didn't realize I was the only one in search of employment. Good luck to everyone looking for a job.

I am still laughing because Goose called it square needles. He called me the other night and when I told him what I would be doing he knew everything about the machinery I will be working on. It was really weird, because I said Tulips and Russells and he was like yeah I know that stuff.

I worked around all those names, Their known through out the Pharmaceutical industry, and you'll see the stuff I was talking about too Fender. That company supplies \"TONS\" of different items for the Industry.
We used massive amounts of what you might be producing. They still do, plus any of you that use \"Insulin \" or any other injectable items the list goes on they make it all, plus testing supplies.

So pretty soon when you go in for a \"Shot or Blood Test\" and that
\"NEEDLE HURTS \" you can think of \"Fender making those Square Needles\" [lol] [lol] [lol] [lol]

And Do me a Favor, can you make the \"1 1/4\" needles just a little smaller?\"
Instead of \"Longer\"? I say that because they have a \"Tolerance\" in length and always go Longer!.

I'm telling you Guys, if you can't find a Job working on Aircraft, look too the Pharmaceutical industry. They LOVE GI's, because you can
1. Work by yourself
2. Pretty much Fix \"Anything\"
3. Your willing to Learn and take on Responsibility
4. You take \"Orders\"[lol] [lol] [lol] [lol]
5. If you see something wrong, instead of going\"Oh well its not my Job\" you try to fix it or make it better
6. You don't \"Bitch\" about a 12 hour day ( or getting Over time pay)
7. You know how to fill out paperwork and use a PC (I didn't but I learned what I needed on the Job.)
8. Willing to sit for \"HOURS\" in a classroom listening to \"Dry, Boring Instructors\" about everything from \"EEOC to Tons of Government Red-Tape issues
9. You can be trusted with \"$1,000,000's\" of Dollars worth of Pharmaceuticals in production and \"Monitoring \" its progress while doing 2 other jobs

And the TENTH REASON why they Love GI'S

You can \"Do can Jerry Rig\" anything while wearing \"A Full Sterile Gown in a enclosed area\" (Hood, Mask, Google's, Coveralls, Boots, Gloves)
Plus You look good in a \"Light Blue Shirt with Dark Blue paints.

Goose

I was Issued my Permanent Residency Visa in Japan last Thursday.

Out of 12 Job recommendations, only 3 were interested in giving me a \"recommend letter\" Due to being a foreigner and limited Japanese Language speaking- reading ability

Having Punched twice During my Flying Career, Spending 3 hours traveling on the light rail train network, bowing 200 times a day and eating Notto for lunch... I quickly learned the Japanese term \"Gamburu\"

\" To do ones best\"

My back sounds like Dropping rifles in a French full review military parade!

Ive had lots of different jobs since i left active duty. Ive experimented around with some very offtrack career paths, Flying, teaching, Law Enforcement, Engineering, Business ownership.

Depending on your living requirements and what is available in your area, this may also have some humbling moments.

It will take time to find your balance. I being one of the few of us that has spent from age 17-42 in the Military knows what its like to rediscover what real life is all about.

1987 Captenant Thug goes to visit Pops at the Depot. See a Bunch of " long haired dudes in biker attire smoken and joking at the Butt Can.

I Ask Loudly? " have ya guys seen so and so? I'm his son and wanted to stop by for a chat? They point in the direction of an F4 on Jacks, OK cool, unsuspecting of the joke. I walk over and pass some dude in coveralls and goggles, he points up the ladder, I head up the ladder and scaffolding plates. Walk out onto the wing. Goggle man points into a Opening in the wing, I Bend over to look, And catch a double wide pair of boots square in the ass. I climb out of the hole madder and Than a hornet, My dad pulls off his goggles and mask and says" Son, you dont know how long i've wanted to do that! Then extends his hand. the rest of the day was spent meeting his coworkers and the animation of a certain Captenant going head first into a Fuel cell.

Hey Glenn,

It sounds like the \"JN's\" don't too much care for \"Guygines\" (Guy-Jeans) anymore with that kind of treatment.
You'll have something soon that will be just right, I pray so.

Thats another thing Fender to bring-up if you have any \"Foreign Language skills\".
German, French and Japanese are BIG ones.

This with my \"GI Nipponese \" and knowledge of the customs I use to get \"Cushy Jobs\" when the Japanese came to the plant to tour it when they were Trying to get a contract with them. Much to some of the \"Company Mangers\" [puke] thinking about me being with the \"Guest\" :D . They like talking to the \"Workers\" more than the \"Shirts\"

Well the company just called me. I have to go in and take a battery of tests called Work Keys. Good thing I have been practicing at the local Job Service. They also asked for proof of my military service. I told them I don't have my DD214 yet but do have a working copy of it and retirement orders. My 214 should be here next month.

What a saga that was too! There was so much wrong on that 214. Good thing the AF now hooks you up with a 214 technican so you can get corrections done before it goes final because after it goes final corrections are a bitch.

Just for kicks here is what was wrong with mine. First they had me as E-7 which is correct but SMSgt. Never heard of a SMSgt E-7. Two very important medals were missing. Liberation of Kuwait (Saudi) and Liberation of Kuwait (Emir of Kuwait).

I also had them change my next of kin to my son as I just got divorced.

For those of you that are retired, did you have a copy forwarded to the local court house or V.A.?

VA yes, court house no. Never heard of that one Fender though I'll bet there's a good reason for it.

I am not sure if there is a good reason. I was on another military website and an old Marine said he had one on record at the local court house. Not sure if it is any better or worse than having one at the V.A.?
