As Fat Bas##rd of Austin Powers fame would say...maaaybe! I think you guys/gals are going to love this sim...IF your computer can handle it! To run it at max setting you are looking at a 1.8-2.0 gig system, max ram and a 128Mb vid card!

Dice,
Will it be a surevey or a study sim?
If it's a surevey, I'm not buying.

Damn, that's a serious game
I have a CDRW, can I still play?
Or is it that they have an anti copying code that might interfere with my CDRW
512MB? That's alot!
So, I guess that it is individual study sims?
And do they have a realistic desert campaign? I think the European theatre is far-fetched.

What's the difference between a survey sim and a study sim?

Hi tritonal,

Most of the new games are written for the high speed computers. I thought that my PC was ok for Combat Flight Sim 3 (that is out in stores). I started the game and it told me that my video adapter was inadequate. I have a 32 MB 3D card. I figured I would tell everyone about this because I want to get this new game. So before you spend the cash, check your system.

As far as the CDRW goes, If you have a straight cd then that should work. You can run 2 cds in your system. I have 2 cd's, a CDRW and a DVD, along with a 30G and a 6G HD.

Now I'm looking to build a new computer. like a 1.5 to a 2.0 GHZ. If you want to run any of the new sim games you need a min of a 800MHZ to 1 GHZ with 256MB Ram. Even the new "Sim" games like Sim City they have a min of about a 700MHZ. New Kid games are the same like the hot wheel game that is out.

ALWAYS examine the requirements of any program that you buy. Most people buy things from the store and do not look at the requirements and then get on the phone with tech support and say it won't work.

I have seen this in my 6 years of working with computer hardware and software. Remember, many of the new high end graphic cards that are out, have their own processor built on to the board, which means your computer processor needs to be big enough to drive the data to the card. If you are into gaming, then stay away from integrated video. You can not replace this, only the mother board. An installed AGP Video card (NOT A PCI VIDEO CARD!!) is the best way to go in my eyes. This is my opinion.

Good luck with you choice. Feel free to drop me a line if you have questions.

Pete

Thanks Pete, I'm sure to have my share of questions.
I remember Sim City running smooth on my 166 and that was a dinosaur.

I have good memory, 256DDR SDRAM that supports data transfers on both edges of each clock cycle so it doesn't matter if I have 512Ram . I also have a 64M AGP card.
The first specs they laid down for my computer were "adequate":
1.4 Celeron and integrated video card , SDRAM. I had it changed and the price went up 200$.

My next computer is going to have a 512DDR, fast ethernet card, 2 Gig processor, 128M Video card. and 200gig hard drive so I can partition linux and windows(XP pisses me off sometimes)

Have you heard any problems with old sim games where they can not operate because the threshold of the memory and processor is too high?

just turn the memory down and get "CPU KIll" to slow the chip. I had to do that to run Longbow II

I just got my new video card. A 64 MB card. Here is the link:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... =W450-7000

I paid 89 for it and now it is down by $10. My Cousin works for ATI and helps write the video drivers.
I have had it for about a week now and have had no problems with my system. I can now run the Combat Flight Sim 3.

Look into it if you need a card.

Pete
