Hi all, I'm one of the few who have been straffed by a warthog & lived to tell [Luke Gunnery Range; Az ~ 1989]!
Why is it that comparatively simple proven designs such as the A-10 [& Cobra helo] dont see new production runs w/ state of the art avionics...& idiodic concepts like the JSF & the Apache be given a humane demise? Its because the Generals have to have the best toys $ can buy & the congress is too cowardly (or bought out)to just say no.
Why is the USAF allowed to waste huge investments pounding heavy loads & hours on F-15 & 16s doing ground attack w/ expensive air to air platforms, rather than using these birds to sweep the skies, Weasels to take out the radars & thus allow the Hogs & A-7's to strike @ will?

A-7's?

We still have those? I am a BIG fan of the A-7.

PS- where ya a police officer at?

JSF is a stupid concept?

Well, we better hope not, cause thats all we got.

I think the F-35 is going to make believers out of alot of people. It was designed from the first day to be built for all three services. They are not trying to morph one plane into a one size fits all.........But have designed variants with a strick performance criteria in mind for all three. All three are very different, but close enough in design lineage to have a very high degree of commonality.

A-7 is not in service anymore, last one retired from USAF Air National Guard service in the mid 1990's.............

The A7 hasn't been in the inventory for years, the F15(E) is very good at it's ground attach role, to be more specific, the E model has much greater ground attach capabilities than air to air...

This thread shouldn't be in this section (This section is called HOG CHAT, meaning about the A10 specifically)...I guess we have another member to "train"
