Hi,
ok, i´m from Germany and I know that´s not the coolest place to be from nowadays.
I just want to tell you that not everybody in Germany thinks the same way about the war in iraq. I dont think its nice to have a war down there, but some things have to be done.

I did not vote for our government, and I think they completly suck!!
Not enough they´re doing some serious shit politically here in Germany, no, they also destroyed the good relationship to the U.S. and other allies.

Personally I hope the best for the soldiers down there, because I think they´re doing a very important job. I wished our "bundeswehr" could help, but as you all know we´re not joining.

I´m a big hog-fan for many years now.
About 2 miles away from my parents house there was a "training ground" for u.s. soldiers stationed in my hometown. (back in the 80´s we had a lot of tanks, and there still is an airfield with scout-helis). Sometimes (when we were very lucky) we could watch a pair of a-10s doing their practise-runs there. VERY impressing, the way these guys were flying out there!!!

Best wishes for all soldiers and hog-drivers!!!

Thank you for your words of support.

Don't worry, compared to the French, the Germans are not facing nearly the same amount of criticism in the US.

Onward to Baghdad!!!

Welcome to the forum, Homer32. We cover our friends' backs, regardless, even if some elements don't think it's the right course of action. Hope you stay and chat, we'd love to hear from you!

Welcome Homer. I have said this from the start, I can understand Germany's reluctance to go to war, you guys are experiencing some very serious economical issues, as well as some very dramtic social paradigm shifts. The French on the other hand, well we all know their track record.........I am not at all suprised that they are very eager to help shape a post war Iraq, given the revenue they are losing as we topple the current tyranical regime there. The French are upset that they have not been a global superpower since the days it was argued if the world was indeed global, or flat in geographic form.

If your not having fun, your not doing it right!

Guys, thanks for your welcome in spite of my nationality!
(Yesterday I read in the newspaper that the spectators were booing dirk nowitzki, so I could not expect any better for me ... ;-))

Here in Germany many people say that "we" should be against all wars because of our history, that a nation which started WWII should always be against war.
I don´t agree.
WE should have learned what dictators like Hitler can do, if you dont stop them. So I think it is our very duty to help the world to get rid of Hussein.
Now, many people will say "hey, you cant compare Hussein with Hitler, there is a big difference!!"
Ok, Hussein has not killed as many people as Hitler did, but do we have to WAIT for a guy like Hitler before we finally do something against him ???? I dont think so!

A little less conversation, a little more action!

It's not your nationality, but who you are that matters, here.

I agree the comparison to Hitler is valid.

Both were clearly evil, clearly insane, and clearly wildly ambitious.

Saddam will share in Adolf's fate soon enough :)

Onward to Baghdad!!!

Hi Homer!
I'm from germany myself, although i live in the us for a year now.
Where are you from exactly? The only a-10s in germany are from spang AB i think. However i saw them pretty often where i lived (close to K-Town and Rammstein AB. I once played a hunt-'em down kind of game in the woods with my friends back in the days. We were all in camo and hiding with a map and flashlight and even some nightvision-cameras,
when 2 a-10 did low level passes and hard breaks. They stayed for about an hour! We also saw a Black- or PaveHawk flying by, that was realy impressive, and a bit scary. It's funny that you see and hear more a-10s, F-16 and C-130 in germany than bundeswehr tornados or 'smokies'.
I love the sound of the TF34 engines and the elegant turns of the hog!

hi freak,
the place where i watched the a-10´s is "Büdingen" which is about 40km northeast of Frankfurt. i still live close to this place today, in a small village called "Stockheim".

as i mentioned, there still is an airstrip for helis (D Troop, 1st Squadron,1st United States Cavalry, flies OH58D: see http://www.geocities.com/desperado_09076/ ) in Büdingen today, but i haven´t seen any a-10´s around for a long time.
The only airport with a-10´s in germany as you said is Spangdahlem (81. Fighter Squadron, http://www.spangdahlem.af.mil/default.asp )

today i just watched 2 bundeswehr-tornados, hmm, not my favourite plane
i think it depends on where you live, around k-town there are sure a lot of american jets, if you live close to a luftwaffe-airport, you can watch the F-4´s, Tornados or: MIG29!!! (a very german jet!)

i would love to see a fulcrum...
but they are stationed way up north. I recall Lechfeld?
It definetly was close to willhelmshafen. But they are getting retired now :( .Not that i think the Mig-29 was a match to american fighters, but definetly better and more elegant than those tornados LOL
I lived a 3/4 hour drive east of mannheim.
Welcome on board homer!

gotta be very lucky to see a fulcrum in germany...
they´re stationed only in "Laage" in the north-east. (i think 24 of them, Jagdgeschwader 73 "Steinhoff")

they´re supposed to be replaced by the "eurofighter". they keep saying it for 20 years now that the luftwaffe needs something after the f-4... it´s on the schedule for this year. let´s see!

Lechfeld is in Bavaria , they fly Tornado (JaboG 32)

LOL
Laage, Lechfeld..all the same...
yep..the eurofighter...nice! i like it better than the gripen
and the rafale is a joke in price-perfomance relation.
well it follows the french tradition lol.
The Eurofighter seems to be very innovative and trimmed for the needs of the member nations.
By far no match for the double-two though.
Germany just can't afford too many right now lol. They almost screwed the rest of europe over with the stuggle to finance the A-400.
man sieht sich!

but i think i can´t join it today any more.... (its 1:50 a.m. in germany, i have to sleep 5 hours now...)

bis morgen denn !
