16 drivers are better than 18 drivers..........
Speaking of the "Big Hug" he has kept a low profile these days
French Mirage drivers.............now thats funny. While we are on the subject, did the French get an A2A kill in Desert Storm?

Looks like Damascus may soon get a Hard Rock Cafe as well.........

French Mirage Pilots should also be known as "Surrender Meat"

Just finished reading a book by Colonel Boyd..............He had an interesting perspective on Naval Aviation.............was the first one to call the F-14 the "Tom Grape" cause when the F-14A was squeezed into a hard turn it bleed of energy like a grape sqeezing juice..........

Interesting to see a person say it how it is, with no regard to political correctness..........

Try pulling a F15E in a high Alpha Turn....Flies like a ton of Bricks. I can get a Gun snap on anything, but you'll be falling out of the sky quicker than birdshit.

BVR since he is Supersonic I hope. He is Dead Meat against the 120, and he cant Manuever Out of plane to force an overshoot. SO i feel confident i have him there. I personally think the Phoenix is a Joke, and i know for a fact it cant manuever against fighters....Its designed to Pop Bombers.

I have DACT BFM'd F14s in both the Blk50 16 and in the F15E. In all the 16 Engagements I won. These were Sorties over the Sea of japan. So they were Clean engagements with no terrain Masking. Some BVR and alot of pure ACM with TANks. Most of the time since we have a low RCs is a matter of TGt Track training forthe F14 Crews, and its good for us as well Breaking Locks and gageing the "battlespace"

In the F15E I won 1 BVR, Lost 1 in ACM, and had several Draws and "Knock Offs" in the F15e. I had less than 300 hours in it, and the F15e is a 100% Energy management platform, you have no room to Slide. So i really cant give a fair engagement on Which one is the best, It came down to How well we new radar and how well we worked the angles. After flying the 16 for 8 years and going to a F15E, is like night and Day. Its like trying to NASCAR a 18 Wheeler, its a very humbleing experiance.

When we do DACT sorties its not a flat clean whos the best dogfighter. Its done in focus to learning a critical lesson. When these flights are set up its usually to reinforce in stages the actions of Airspace penetration, Ingress to the Target with Stores....Egress with partial stores, or egress with no stores.. At any point along that path Their are several key phases and understandings an aircrew needs to understand about how they perform and what the aircraft can do. This helps to develop and hone a Aircrews tactical Mindset.

During redflag. We were the advesaries and we escorted B1's deep into Nellis Range. on the way we had to penetrate the enemies counter air and Barcap efforts. Protect the B1's ingressing and Egressing while at the same time Killing Command and Control facilities or other Engagement Scenearios.

I have done some Deep airspace penetration exercises with F15E and its all a matter of angles, Low level Flight, Penetrateing and decieving the advesaries But above all strikeing the target. So our Focus is to not engage enemy air assets unles its absolutely required.

---------------

You surrounded the Phoenix and it will be out of the inventory directly. They still deployed with them this time out.

Nice summary on tactics.

The last real air to air war was the Korean War. Many of the top US Aces used the same tactics from WW2.

hi there!
U R NOT ALONE, CHRUSAN! lol
I'm a viper fan myself, and a newbie to this forum.
IT is actually possible to love the hof and the dart, one for its total meaness and destructive criticism towards ground warfare (lol)
and the other for its 'sexy' appearance and flexibility. And both have exceptional capabilities in their fields (yes, i consider
multi-role a seperate task ;D).
Can the mirage actually carry 6 marta missiles without loosing some of its so-called 'performance' lol.
No, seriously the french should join the european industry and stop taking pride in locally manufactured crap. And then the french military can't buy enough to make profit, so they have to sell everything to countries like Iraq in '91.
Does anyone know how much manpads they sold to 'anonymous organisations'? i heard they were selling systems to druglords, but it might just be a rumor and beyond government control.

hi thud,

nothing against the 172´s, it´s a fine plane.

the french-mirage driver just thought about it as an adequate combatant. so he engaged, but i forgot to mention that he bailed out as he saw a 2nd 172. just in case...
