She's a fighter too... http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&ncid=514&e=4&cid=514&u=/ap/20030403/ap_on_re_mi_ea/war_us_pow

The Washington Post reported Thursday that the 19-year-old Army supply clerk shot several Iraqi soldiers during the March 23 ambush that resulted in her capture. She kept firing even after she had several gunshot wounds, finally running out of ammunition, the newspaper said, citing unidentified U.S. officials.

Now i am hearing it was Rangers and SEALS.

Damned fog of war!

Interestingly, this is i believe only the second time that US POWs have been rescued in US history, with the first being Rogers Rangers in WWII.

---------------

There is a famed raid for POWs in the Phillipines in WW2. It never got much PR, they went 30 odd miles into bad guy country to spring some POWs. Interesting part was the P-60, think that's it, twin motor night fighter. It had IR gear on it for night fighting and they used it effectively. Dim memory recalls, Bull Simons might had been the Company CO.

Think the book was called the Ghost Soldiers.

Sounds like she has a Silver Star coming her way(well earned).

And Joe Dog...I still have doubts.

Just reported by CentCom HQ.

At what cost? Recall Bat-21 in Nam and assets diverted for one soul?

My Dad was in on that mission. He refueled the CAS aircraft. There wasn't anything more important at that time to be doing. Knowing that the US will never ever give up trying to get them home is vital to our soldiers.

Better read a little more on BAT-21, we were thinking of using an Arc Light mission to take him out. There were serious firefights that lost CAS to support the rescue attempt.

We left MIAs in Nam. Let alone the Korean War.

At what point do you call off a CSAR?

We lost an Apache crew in Iraq. They tried to rescue them, but the AAA got to heavy. They tried and the Commander on scene had to call it off to avoid taking more losses.

Commanders have to make hard decisions at times.

This is why they risked so many for one. It is the Code of Conduct for US Armed Forces Personnel. Do you think for one minute any POW could try to uphold these articles if he/she thought no one was coming to help them? Damn right they sent many for one and it was the right thing to do.

Article I. I am an American, fighting in the forces which guard my country and our way of life. I am prepared to give my life in their defense.
Article II. I will never surrender of my own free will. If in command, I will never surrender the members of my command while they have the means to resist.
Article III. If I am captured, I will continue to resist by all means available. I will make every effort to escape and aid others to escape. I will accept neither parole nor special favors from the enemy.
Article IV. If I become a prisoner of war, I will keep the faith with my fellow prisoners. I will give no information or take part in any action which might be harmful to my commrades. If I am senior, I will take command. If not, I will obey the lawful orders of those appointed over me and will back them up in every way.
Article V. When questioned, should I become a prisoner of war, I am required to give name, rank, service number, and date of birth. I will evade answering further questions to the utmost of my ability. I will make no oral or written statements disloyal to my country and it allies or harmful to their cause.
Article VI. I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America.

Don't tell me what you think, what does the T.O. say.
