Sorta captures the surreal nature of war.

consider that the bean and rice burrito is designed to have a 3 year (?) shelf life at about 75 degrees.....

I always liked the Ham slices in special snot sauce.

And of course, who could ever pass up the dehydrated pork patty?

LOL, YUCK!

I always thought the beefsteak and the chicken were edible... which is about the best thing you can say for most MRE's... LOL

Beefsteak came after my time, but the Chicken ala King was actually edible, lol.

The dehydrated meats were just beyond nasty.

As a kid I used to search for things left by the US Army soldiers at the "training places" in the woods.
Interesting things like flashlights, empty machine gun shells...
and of course the food they didn´t like and therefore left behind.
Some things were sort of disgusting, but I liked the peanut butter!!
(only few Germans like peanut butter or Dr. Pepper. I do )
That was in the late 70´s early 80´s. I think today the meals are no longer canned, are they?

I got to see and sample off an MRE after Desert Storm. The Fruit bar wasn't that bad, well maybe it was in name.

And I did crack wise about running out of ammo and knocking an Iraqi out with the MRE browny.

I had the pleasure of living on LRRP rations for awhile. They make the "three lies in one bag" seem downright yummy.

All the way...

We had an A-10 taxi over an oatmeal bar at Al-Jouf during DS. Know what happened? The thing didn't even break. Eat one of those and forget going to the latrine for at least a week. I used to trade MRE's to the British SAS for their rations just to get something different. Steak and Kidney pudding, yum yum.

I got to go over the pond for a joint LRRP exercise. The Brit's were great hosts. They even jumped us. No, it wasn't like that. We got to jump their para riggs so we could wear their very spiffy wings. The food on the other hand. We traded a few times. Eeewww. I'd rather eat something I know I hate then a grab bag of Brit rations. Picky eater...

All the way...

A friend was telling me about some of the ones he could stand. "Oh it's not bad if you use the tabasco." Excuse me, Tabasco? I remember licking the dry instant coffee off my finger for my morning pick me up.
I just caught the end of the C-rats and the John Wayne candy bars. yumyumyum.

All the way...

Snipe they have had gum since at least the first gulf war. There was a great quote about EPW's during that time that they were so hungry they even ate the "Chiclets" gum.
