so if I got all you insiders right, there are no c-rations any more, it´s called MRE´s today. They´re not canned but in bags, are "edible" but still better than the british food. But "Kidney pudding" is a joke, isn´t it???

I´d prefer Weasel_80-204´s pizza and buffalo wings. Forgive me, I´ll take a german beer instead of BUD.

most of the MRE's are edible... except for the Vegie meals, no matter how much tobasco or anything else you can get they still taste horrible. The Ham is ok for about the first 10 or 15 minutes after you eat it (this varies person to person) but after that you feel like a flamethrower is going off in your stomach. Most of the desserts aren't bad (pound cake or brownie) but the mint browny taste like S***. All in all it doesn't matter cause like my dad always told me you get hungry enough you'll eat anything.... MRE's do qualify as anything (or in some cases 'something').

1. Don't look conspicuous; it draws fire.
2. Never draw fire; it irritates everyone around you.

Homer I am not sure of your age but MRE's have been around at least since I came in the USAF in 1982. No the Steak and Kidney pudding was one of the choices, and no it did not taste good.

I was born in 1972, oh my god, then I am 30 ???

I read a few books about the Vietnam War recently, of course they mention c-rations and that´s why I used that term.

Kidney pudding, really? yuck yuck yuck

You people are makeing feel pretty odd!

I can't remember ever haveing an MRE I didn't like..... Than again I never had to live off them..... Then again it took me about 6 mo. to get tired of the can of tunafish with bar-b-q sause I would eat every day for lunch, maybe I am odd.

MMMMmmmm, thinking of Beef stew MRE!! I may have to go into town to the "Army Navy store" and get the civil. equivilant. (not sure if you've seen them, made by same co. but packed in a dif. bag)

A friend was telling me about some of the ones he could stand. "Oh it's not bad if you use the tabasco." Excuse me, Tabasco? I remember licking the dry instant coffee off my finger for my morning pick me up.
I just caught the end of the C-rats and the John Wayne candy bars. yumyumyum.

All the way...

As quoted in Tom Clancy's ,Tony Kurtz and Carl Stiners book Shadow Warriors: All members of Spec Ops carried a bottle of Tobasco sauce in thier rucksacks. It covered the taste of anything they had to eat.

The best MRE I have had was the Ravioli (yes Snipe, they have those too!) but I am game for a #31: Schnitzel and Heffewiesen. Sound good to you Homer??

Those cookies they come with are pretty good--they taste fresh, which is more than I can say about the other stuff. Well, the cheese spread is pretty good, too.
Tabasco makes everything better!
