Adelanto, directly west of the base, and Victorville, directly southeast of the base. Apple Valley, Hesperia, Oro Grande, and Silver Lakes. Dont miss the 108 Deg temps in San Berna-DOOO!

We rotated to korea every 6 months too. I dont miss korea! Sleepen in the field in front of a battalion Commanders tent. in the Mud and a jungle hammock slung under the Left Wing, Chewen on Skeeters...Ear to the Radios...waiting for that call in the night during Team Spirit..Those were the days.

I was a NAIL FAC-A. For 3 years, before my ALO tour.

The former George AFB, now Southern California International, seems to be doing well for itself and growing. Still cargo hub for Irwin, as well as aircraft storage.

Figured Victorville would've blown away after George closed. Odd since some of the other BRAC-closed bases aren't as business-developed as of yet.

Thats California. In the past 15 years it has went from Vineyards to one great big Capitalistic machine.

I used to live in Temecula when i was at George. a hidden little paradise. I work for a Defense Company in San Diego these days. Drive by George on my way out to Edwards/El-Mirage/Gary Butte. weekly. California has changed immensley along the Eastern Highway Communities. One great big Mini Mall plaza from Tijuana to Norcal.

Not something i was used to Growing up in the Desert SouthWest.

You're not kidding. Heck I remember Banning and Indio being literally in the middle nowhere; not anymore. I can't wait for Desert Center to actually get built up around it.

----------

I grew up in the San Fernada Valley and departed for the Navy in 73. It was already pretty full and then they went vertical.

IMO, from I-15 on the East to Ventura County on the West and it's spreading North towards Mojave. It's one big ass City.

I got a trip lined up this year out to SoCal. I hate driving in LA during any rush hour, which tends to run from 0500-2200 damn near now.

I did live in Ventura County for 15 odd years. Lovely weather near the coast and 3 sweet GA airports with Mugu as the bonus divert.

Had a hangar out of Camarillo and probably would had been flying with the CAF wing now. Some sweet tin they have now. One of the few flying Zeros and Hurricanes they have now. Let alone the Bearcat, C-46, B-25s, etc. Couple of Connies flying out of there also. It's worth a visit, www.airnav.com input CMA and should be a link for the CAF.

In my younger days drove big rigs for a supermarket chain. O man we had stores in cities I had never heard of before in SoCal.
