The 332d was the first into Tallil. The Hogs from Whiteman did operate out of Tallil, but they didn't show in theater until after the "major" conflict was about over.

Actually from what I understood the guys from Battle creek were the very first guys into Talil. The went in with a convoy, slept under the stars and in an old haz, and were even without water for a few days. As a matter of fact I got a crew chief from BC right here next to me.
However................I tried to do a timeline when I first started on this page. I just wanted to see who got where and when. I wasnt trying to bust balls, it was just I wanted to see how much of the total fight the A10's actually participated in. As I recall I got my backside pummeled by the other members here so I refuse to say who went where first. It doesnt really matter..........fact is, the A10 community as a whole was set up to fail from the start as far as I am concerned. And the A10 community as a whole rocked the world.............................period. IMHO

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Hawg166,

The first AF A-10 guys into Tallil were a group of guard guys under Battle Creek Leadership. The first actual A-10 aircraft into Tallil were from the 75FS (Pope).

Of course, there were many Army personnel as well as numerous AF Security Personnel on the ground there well before any A-10 guys there.

Hawg166, I would almost say the USAF as a whole was set up to fail from the start, probably due to the fact that we showed the Army up during the first Gulf War by demonstrating that air power COULD win wars! A counter to that would be that there just wasn't the targets there were in Kuwait, which would be true to a point, but honestly this war was fought with the Army getting most of the limelight. Our beloved Hogs did their job and did it well, but captured little of the glory they deserve. INMHO the results of OIF will haunt the US military for years, the Army now feels vindicated in their want for heavy artillery and other big ticket programs when in truth the USMC could've taken out the Iraqis.

Sorry for the rant but I live in an Army world and am sick of hearing how successful they think they were in OIF. Truth be told, there was no real opposition outside of pockets of resistance. the RG and SRG were nowhere to be seen, and the Iraqi Army deserted a long time prior. A better demonstration of the use of air power can be seen in Afghanistan...

Just my €0.02!

Cheers! M2

T.G. is correct!! I was with the first group in there and I'm from BC. As far as maintenance goes it was 3 pope CC's with the rest from BC and Willow Grove. There was only like 25 of us sent to set it up initially. We became the 392nd temporarily until the rest of the "other base" moved up and then went back to the 332nd. I read that article and it's seriously flawed in their facts!!
I've already ranted about this before so I won't go on. Basically we were there about 3weeks before they showed up and compared to what we started with they were slightly better off!
