Last night I sat down and looked at the art-work I have collected and tried to remember just what I know about each. I have the basics on each piece of art like tail number, base, and date it was on the aircraft but, I feel I’m missing an important piece of their history. I know I have a few of your guys doors and I know you have told me something about them before but I didn’t document the information.

I’m off to the BX this morning to pick-up a notebook so I can build a record of the art I have sooooo, could I please get you to tell me ONE MORE TIME about your door art or one you may know something about. Hawg166, I know you have told me about the Penguin door and Goose you told me about your “live free or die” but could I please get the stories again?

What I would like to know is about the image itself, where it came from, why you choose it, and if you remember who did the work itself. I believe this is an important piece of the art work itself and I want to capture it while I can. Also if you know anyone who can supply info let them know what I’m doing and I will add my request to the main page of my site.

Thanks in advance and let the stories begin!!

Ok...here is how my door art came about (177 Osan AB 1997-1998)

When I first got to Osan, here is what the original door art looked like (sorry about the pictures, wasn’t smart enough to take close ups back then

I wanted to do something different, everyone was doing the typical kill type stuff...I have a weird sense of humor & wanted to something that when someone crewed my jet other than me or a pilot stepped out they would laugh (which happened every time, every pilot loved the art (if that's what you want to call it), or at least that's what they told me). So, when she went to phase I pulled the door off, took it to paint shop, sand blasted the old art off and began to think of ideas. My original Idea was something like this..

Link (Not "family" friendly)
http://images.cardomain.com/member_imag ... 6_full.jpg

Now...when you look at the link, remember...I was stationed at Osan, I got "screwed" when I got my orders, I knew I was getting out, they got me with 2 weeks retain-ability so I couldn't turn the orders down. Needless to say I wasn't the happiest person during most of my time spent at wonderful Osan. I didn't go with that idea for many reasons (least of all the trouble it would have caused ) Main reason (besides trouble) was I'm no artist...so I went with the below design.

Simple yet funny. Our chief at the time (I apologize, I don't recall his name) thought it was unprofessional and wanted it removed, for the last three months my flight chief told me it was brought up at the daily staff meeting almost daily, and he said the chief repeatedly told him to have it removed, thankfully, we used the "ops tempo" excuse (don't know about 177 now, but she was a sh*t hot jet when she was "mine" and she flew all the time). So...that’s the "history" so to say of how 177 had the only yellow smiley face door art that I've ever seen (made it very easy to find on the ramp too...lol)

Paul we have an A10 with a smiley face on it also. Aircraft 78-616 has a smiley thats not smilling. Just a straight mouth and it says 'Have A Day'. Tamyia actually made an A10 model with it in 1/72. I think the aircraft is out for WS 23 right now. Maybe someone at DM or at Hill can find it.
Dice I will work on getting that info from every crew chief that has door art. I will post it here for everyone and I will send it to you also.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

You guys are great! Love the story prkiii and I like the origanal design, would have like to see that one on a door, it was simple but made your point! BTW what was the "green art" of, I can't make it out in the first photo? Also what did the "chief" find so unprofessional about a smily face?
Got my notebook and if yall don't mind I will save the other photos (like prkiii's drawing) to keep with the art and stories.

The original picture was of a dragoon sitting on a star (was the wing commanders jet at one time, before I arrived). Not really sure what the Chief found so unprofessional...I guess he didn't have a sense of humor...

BTW- I know the "white stuff" will bring some nastie remarks (I know you guys) so to set the record straght is SOAP..the aircraft is being washed!

That is not the original 'Dangerous Toy" Do you still have my email I sent you with that info? JFYI the original dangerous toy will have an eaing in the clowns left ear..a "75" for the 75th FS that the original door was in......but yes the dangerous toys band was the inspiration, it was taken off their 1st cd cover. Also Megadeath's "peace sells....but who's buying" cove is out there somewhere

OK I'm confused (nothing new right ) the door I posted above was removed from a jet in AMARC in 2000 for referbisment so I assumed it was off a jet which had been in AMARC for a while.

You say the one below is the orginal one? When was it painted and how did the one above get painted and when?????

Yes that is the original door, however originally it did not have the 'so dont clown around' and 'boy' on it. I dont know where the other door came from but that(original) door was painted about late 92 or early 93 at Pope. It was originally on afct 80-0205. HTH

also yes it is possible that someone else painted the same door. However that I can not confirm...but just looking at the photos the 2nd DT door is clearly much older. I know that door is the one i had painted cause i specifically asked for the "75" on the earing.

Ok i might be a dumbass here . I believe Bobby Coulter painted that door for me (the 1st one) at Woodbridge in the late 80's. He was my room mate and he painted several doors....odie and garfield, the peace sells door.. etc. Now that I think about it and studied the picture of the first dangerous toy door it really looks like his work. I visited with him up in pittsburgh last year and we got to jam a bit( had a band while at woody), and I was looking at some of his artwork form the "day". He is on his way back home form the sandbox shortly and he is supposed to call when he returns so I will pick his brain. But I can for a fact say the 2nd DT door I had painted at Pope about 92-early 93. Sorry about the confusion but after looking at the 1st door again I am almost positive Bobby painted that for me.

Not a problem JB that's what this thread is all about...gettting the history of these art-works straght!!! Just so you know the pic of the orginal door was taken here (no it's not the one you sent)at depot last year so it's still on an aircraft but, like a dummy I didn't check the tail#. I'm pretty sure it was a Pope jet so I will have a friend at Pope check and see if it's still on 205, if so it's been there for over 10 years!!

BTW- is this the cover you used as your inspration....

That would work, if the first door was painted at WB and then the aircraft when to the boneyard. Your second door (Pope) would realy be the second DT and the WB door the orginal!!

Cant see the cover but it sould look almost identical to the door(s). Except we didnt put all the bakround stuff in it. It was cool bit too much detial to incorporate in a ladder door. The cd rocked! "sportin an woody" was one of my favorites!

yep i can see it now! See the state of texas earing the clown has? that is where i got the idea to replace it with a "75". Do you still got that email I sent with all the door info or did you delete it?....BTW 80-0205 when I got to woody in Jan of 88 had Iron maidens number of the beast cover painted on it so I know i dint paint over that! it was a great ladder door. John Cave was the cc on it back then. Also 80-171 had a AWSOME door I will check with Bobby when he gets back to se if he has a pic of that!

JB, I think I still have your email, will check when I get home. Any more help you can give will be nice! BTW- did you crew any other jets at WB where the first DT door could have been painted on? If not I don't see that as a problem because the door could have been removed and placed on an aircraft going to "the yard".
