I was trying to explain to my children the other day what Reagan meant to America. Now, I'm no stranger to the english language, but after a few minutes I lapsed into silence.
They have no memory of the post-vietnam era, no understanding of the feeling of Malaise in this nation in Carter's "Era of Limits". No memory of gas lines, 20% interest, and "America-past its prime".
They have grown up in a nation that believes in itself again, a nation of the American Dream as a real thing, and not a joke, a nation where ideals DO mean something, a nation whose enemies are little people we can pursue, not a monolithic monster that can destroy us with nuclear-tipped missiles.
Thank you, Mr. Reagan, for what you did for my children.
Jesus said: "If you do not have a sword, go and buy one."
