<img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle> That was histerical........if i was ever caught "dancing" like that (without alcohol in my system) i would hope that somebody would beat some sense into me!

Hammer, Disco, Velvet, re-tard, slipper, Homo....

You could go on and on. usually the one he will hate the most or show his sores will get him the most ribbing.

An Actual naming doesnt really stick until after FTU and your in your Unit flying.

But something as simple as a Spouse making an offhand Comment like poopey or pumpkin, within earshot of your Peers will change all that....

Never ever try to create something becasue you may want to be called "ice", but since your a Homo and not cool enough to warrant the title you could end up as "SLUSH" etc.

How about "Art Fag"?

You could id' his plane in the flight formation cause it'd be continuously banking and pitching.
Flight leader: "Art Fag", cool it!

I would want my call sign to be "Tater Nuts".
I saw that on a <i>70's Show</i> rerun and took to it

LSO: Call the Ball "Tater Nuts".
Tater Nuts: Roger, "Tater Nuts" has got the ball...

This have as much trendy potential as The Star Wars Kid?

And since he like interperative dance...how would either the call sign Princess Clara, or Toot Braunstein suit him?

The idea comes from a scene from episode two of Drawn Together involving interperative dance & those two characters that'd be unkind call signs.

THe Guy MAy get Ribbed or May be the life of the Party around the Old Fossils.

But certainly nothing to end a career or Ruin One. Fighter pilot Life is nothing But one Great Big Frat party. Were mature enough to pay attention to the Job, But afterwords is when the real Bonding takes place and mutual Respect and admiration is earned. I cant really speak for how things are today as Leadership is More jaded these days with all the Touchy feely Hugs, Kisses Teddy bear policies.

When I was a young 1stLt. I spent a solid day being ripped apart on my Comms Procedures. The Guys had me broke down Very hard. IT wasnt Easy, Flying, FACIng and having two PRC Radios Strapped in with Bungies trying to Coord the Chaos of a simple manuever plan. IT wasnt Till I Blew up on the Radio and told everyone to "STFU" And took my Honor Back and got it right that the Hazing stopped. Later that Night My Flight Commander Showed Up at my Quarters With Several Bottles of Seagrams 7. Me being the Guilt Ridden Over achiever I had always been. Was burried into every damn pub I had trying to create a procedural checklist of getting it done in the pit without flying into a mountain. He saw what I was doing and said. WTF is wrong with you? Lets party. And so it was.

As long as your peers see you focused on the job, And putting forth the effort, You will always have a future. They also want you to enjoy that Zest for life. You can be your worst enemy and kill your career, If you wallow in pitty and self doubt. Warriors will always see right through that nonsense. They dont like weakness and feed off your weakness. Everybody else is feeling the same way you do, and If you can keep spreading the happiness. Everyone is better off. Or your just going to catch someones angst. Spread the Smiles or be someones Verbal punching bag.

Stay happy, Stay Focused, and when its time to close shop you leave all that shit back at the gate.

What year did you become a 1st Lt?
One period in the military that fascinates me is the 1980's: the biggest build-up since WWII.

Mudd, you state the commander will piss all over you if you pick an arrogant call sign. What about a silly one?

LETS just say all I heard over the radio for he next few months was I love you, you love me sung as I got sent to a shoot, stabbing, fight in general. Some things are just hard to live down

I pray these goes away. I saw a doc on the <i>Reagan</i> and they showed a segment of the passing over the equator ritual. From the stories of my kid-dom, I heard this ritual is very, very brutal. What I saw was tantamount to summer camp.<img src=newicons/anim_bs.gif border=0 align=middle>

At least its not all sugar-coated. I believe my bro still has the scar on his chest from where they "pinned" his sargeants badge.

Early..early 80's Trit.....

I never stated the Commander. I simply Reflected Your Associates "Peers" The Guys (also Gals) YOu Fly, Fight and Train With. The unit as a Whole, Your Training Cadre, Class ETC.

Some Characters have become Quite Legendary. All that needs to be said is. "Did you hear about..."XXXXXX" and it spreads through Every unit in ACC. Once you have been named and it Sticks..... That is your identity.

As far as advertising my associates through my career and how those things come about. Sorry. I will leave that on the Private domain, as it is would be uncoothe to do so publicly.

YOur Right they are... But that is Life in any "Fraternity"

If you can't shoulder that. You have no buisness in the job. the Realities of what we do as a Career are much more tragic, than a persons fragile sensebilities.

Its not going to. What will change is the way that these things go about and the ammount of Guille that takes place behind the scenes.

But this is all pointless for me to discuss, as dealing with those things of the PC world are no longer my Problem.

Those that wish to keep these traditions alive will have to do so with absolute trust and comaraderie amongst their domain. IF not. McDonalds is always hiring. If you get my point. Loyalties fade as The realities of Personal needs and welfare cometo the surface. And this is what Happens when the Dimes Get dropped and the ACC Gestapo Fries those responsebile in self preservation of the Services Image or what ever card they are playing this week.

I mention "commander" because I remember reading a pilot's post (I forget who it was) that <i>Top Gun</i> came out and this pilot's buddy wated to be called "Iceman".
The flight lead, or commander didn't like that he was so foward and called him "Slushface(?)"<img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle>

As for your not divulging your associates: "what happened in the TAC stays in TAC<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>": Be as tight-lipped as you want; I would do the same as you

As far as serving in the 80's as a pilot, I want to know what day to day life was like. What did you train for: I'm guessing the drill alerts were far different from the ones they train for now? How was the officer politics back then, how did the Reagan administration influence the stature and the morale of the soldier- These questions are general and not geared to anyone in specific, but to all who served in the Navy and/or the Air Force: MAC, SAC and TAC.

I love studying everything I can get about the 1980's. That is when my love for all things military was instated, and probably no doubt to the massive overhaul and expenditures that was taking place in it; I love that decade.

I think their is much more limitations these days. I also flew in an Era that Many of the Vietnam Guys were still Flying and was a much differnt outlook than today. Command structures seem to always change to fit the curent Regime at the top of DOD. Most pilots When I began Flying were allready high time Commercial pilots Before hitting UPT. It was also a Time that Their was no requirement in reality for Leadership Progression, it was not uncommon to know a 10-15 Year In Grade Major-Col. ETC. Today it is Climb the Pyrimid or pack your Bags.
We have gained more "Rules to play by today" This can be looked at in many ways. Airspace enproachment, Legal Issues, Technology, Training facilities. Operational Commitments.

WEre obviously operating in a much differnt Footing than the Cold war and Fiscally. But. It does not mean that we have not had Hot Spots to operate in. One thing is For Certain. While the Land Based warfighters are becoming less active in the tactical nature. Aviation and all things expeditionary in nature are becoming the "defense system" that is upholding our way of life.

I'll leave this kind of topic up to those Stil lserving now ifthey wish to Bite on it. As Aviators. We have always had a Opportunity presented for legitamcy of mission. It also seems the Ground Based units will not get playtime unless We fence In the opening Acto of our diplomacy.

I hear that it's usually to keep the legacy of aviators in the family history.

I had a pilots License at 16. IT was an aspiration i had. But I Never had aspirations to be a needle burner. During my Time in the Marine reserves. I had really enjoyed riding in helicopters, Their regime of flight etc. So therefore I put forth my best effort in College to get to that point. Unfortunately the Marine Corps and Navy were not Taking in Applicants and their was no guarante for Aviation. IF they did take me in. I started shopping around and was invited by an Air Force Recruiter To take a leisurely tour of Nellis and talk about their sales pitch. It didnt take long for me to realise it was easy to be hard, but its hard to be smart about allot of things in life and certainly the work enviroment of a career.

I subsequently Joined the Air Force and even dream sheeted helicopters. To this day, My only Rotorwing Aviation Experiance has been what has came out of my pocket in the past year. I dont have regrets. Airforce gave me a Medium to succeed.

You got it at 16. I started at 14 and still have my own pilot's book... however, parents said it was too much and it was out of the way- I regret not fighting harder. That's when the guitar became more inviting.<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle>

I recently heard by a recruit that they don't care for private pilot's licenses because they have to re-teach you to miliatry standards; I found that interesting.

Those, the real airforce commercial, and the footage of a huge water balloon being thrown off a roof onto a portapotty, then a Cadet runs out of the one next to it would be a nice start to a DVD.

...And something along the lines of "Alert & ready 24/7" could be a good theme for the water balloon vid.

The Real Airforce commercial was included on some disks Tiny Giant burned and handed out for free. If memory serves...the water balloon on the port-a-potty vid is in this forum somewhere.
