Hang in there Hog Fan but I wouldn't focus everything on the A-10, the chaos will remain for years.

There was a better way to handle this which, as I stated in an earlier post, would result in 5 Guard A-10 units with Baltimore being the odd unit out. The way I thought it was going to come out was this:

Baltimore keeps their C-130J's with a plus up from Little Rock, loses the A-10 mission
The remaining 5 units plus up to 18 PAA with 2 BAI using Baltimore aircraft
Willow Grove moves to Harrisburg..not ideal but better than what you have now
F-15's from Otis move to Atlantic City with an alert facility at either or both Bradley and Barnes to cover the Northeast
F-16's from Atlantic City move to Ft Smith

Dunno, guess it proves the old adage "you don't know what you don't know" but I thought it was a pretty good plan..which should've been my first hint it wasn't going to work seeing how I've been wrong on just about everything else related to this BRAC.

Ok, so nothing I was told was going to happen actually happened. For the A-10 world, lets welcome Ft Smith, Arkansas (don't ask me, I don't understand it either). Lets welcome the newest F-15 unit, the 104th at Barnes. Battle Creek, it's up to your govenor where your aircraft end up, the base is in enclave status. Willow Grove, Bradley and New Orleans, gone from the A-10 world.

The A-10's will probably have to find a new home at Ft Dix or Ft. Indiantown Gap since they are getting booted from NSF Willow Grove. I'd venture a guess to the latter after seeing triplets flying over town yesterday.

Won't happen Lunatock, that's an out of state move. WG's A-10's are gone if this is accepted by the Prez and congress, assuming the DoD wins on appeal of the court ruling. If DoD loses, all bets are off for the whole guard re-mix.

I didnt have time to read all the posts here so ifin I repeat what some of you brilliant WT analysts have allready stated........sorry. I can speculate on the realignment of a lot of A10's to an Army base is all about. I wont go so far as to say that the guys at the 104th are the only A10's to do those weeklong trips with some rather shady characters in the US Army because I know we arent. However we have probably done twice as many as the rest of the A10 units combined because for one WE DO lead the pack and because we are greedy and selfish and by hogging all the good trips with rather shady characters we keep ourselves at the head of the pack. We admit we are arrogant and selfish so dont bother flaming me or us. I give up before it begins. Anyhoo, with all of those operations we have participated in I believe that WE have have pushed the abilities of the A10 AND ITS GROUNDCREWS to a different level if you will. Some of my counterparts and I agree that in an attempt to do these things we have acually made the A10 so vital to future Arny operations that perhaps the miltary through channels within ASOC have seen fit to make the A10 available year round in better weather than can be found in the northeast. I know I know I know what your thinking Billy is acting like he did the first day he posted here three years ago. However without being a conspiratorial moron and without being melodramatic, there are things that I know or have seen that maybe many of you dont, including some of the pilots here. There were intrinsic strengths of the A10 highlited in OIF by not only Barnes, but by Connecticut and Whiteman as well that the Army tried to capitalize on in the past couple years and we have just been lucky or selfishness enough to participate in those attempts with the Army. I am not bashing, I am not being arrogant, I believe the A10 community as whole needs to stick together and remain knit especially now. I just have these OPINIONS for MY REASONS ONLY. They are my opinions.
Okay you can fire away I am bracing for the inevitable onslaught. I only ask one thing. If you were part of or know of these excercises that I am speaking of, the name is classified and so arent the type of excercises. It isnt a big deal among us as maintaners and pilots but if you are going to hammer me, please keep them quiet.
Allright I am ready someone throw me a first aid kit. Old Chief if you are still at Bradley I think you have been a player in some of these.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Yeah, I played in some of those Bill and it has been difficult a couple of times not to sound off on a couple of things that have been said here on the boards.

With that, let me say "well said" with your post..only problem, without some deep background, some of it won't make sense..LOL

Nice job with the show this weekend..sorry I didn't get a chance to look you up, I was with a 3 and a 4 y/o, talk about herding cats.

Well a letter from Rick Santorum this afternoon has made it official to me. Willow GRove has been chosen to be shut down. So now the Marine Corps & Navy personel will be deployed to Macguire AFB, the 111th fighter wing's A-10's will be shipped off to Idaho, Maryland, and New Jersey, or retired.

This crock of shit comes in a fairly close second behind the BRAC decision to shut down Walter Reed Medical Center.

Lunatock,

New Jersey? Why is that a possible location for the WG A-10s?

I meant to say Maryland, Idaho, and Michigan. Hadn't memorised the letter from Rick Santorum, and had to guess what the last state was that Willow Groves A-10's will be shipped off to.

At the rate the lawsuits are being filed, I wouldn't be surprised if Rummy advised the President not to sign it. This thing could be tied up in the courts for years.

Chief I am glad that someone understands. I have all the respect in the world for the Hawg community, I dont ever want to go back t air to air unless I get F14's back. But at least you know that I cant get deep into the details. I really expected to get hammered on that last post. Thanks for taking it easy on me. ;)

The way I see it,after going thru the 91-92 Crap! The President will sign it,no matter how GOOD or Great Your wings War record is,
England,Beach, just to name the 2 biggest both get AXED! Right after the war.
They close whole squadrons (make them paper pusher's)or just put them in the closet, split the others up,give them new jets missions etc..
The Maintainers go everywhere, some go with the Jets to the new station others get sent to all 4 corners,C-141's,C-5's the biggest winner was the KC-10 program.
A-10's to KC-10's only a couple of letters but still a "10"

After this next go around they'll deicide there's too many Airforce ,and they'll down size again.

You'll get offered a "SSB" get out but be "IRR" WITHIN 6 months of your getting out you'll get mustarded to the nearest Army unit, and "BINGO" more troops! The Guard and reserves meet their goals.
Just my hunch why A-10's are going to FORT SMITH.
you'll go from "Blue to Sand" because you wont get a choice.
If your lucky you can try and snag a Airlift wing slot as a part timer,to keep you out of the "Army" Hey Med-Vac aint bad duty,in and out.
Dont have to clean your M-16 and hot TV dinners or get on airlift and play "Flying CrewChief" and always have a warm or cool clean place to sleep and eat.

I hope you get what you want Billy,if they close you guys I think the "old girl" is going to end up in M&M'S HANDS. You knew she turned 25 in june this year.

So if you get "The Shaft" at least try for a "SOFT LANDING".
the worst they can do is put you on MIDS ,make you a FLT Chief/expiditer on TrashHAulers and make Terminal runs all night.
And when a Disater strikes you get into HIGH GEAR!
just like when CLARK AB had to be EVAC'ED" we worked around the clock at TRAVIS turning and burning 141'S back to Clark,I might of even seen Dice get off one of the Birds.
So look on the bright side, just turn-off the lights and hope you dont hit a wall when picking out a door, and then just WALK IN!
If it aint for you,you can always "BAIL-OUT" I did and regert it alot, but dont either.

Yeah it's bad. Not as bad as Waler Reed being slated for the wrecking ball, but still sucks.
