That's the truth. Stinger and I live in Arlington (between Dallas & Ft. Worth) and one of my co-workers that lives in Dallas said today that there are already large crowds of people that have been bussed into Irving (to temporarily reside in Texas Stadium - Cowboys' homefield) and Dallas. From the looks of things, they've been literally bussed in and dropped off.
What's worse is the majority of them brought their "ill-gotten gains" with them, and are now pawning the stolen crap off to get some cash for who knows what.
One of my other co-workers and I got to thinking: what happens when these people, with no possessions and no more money, run out of stuff to sell?
As much as I feel genuine sorrow for the majority of the people affected by this, one of the most awfully devastating natural disasters ever seen, my thoughts are now translating over to the safety of my family and personal property. It's a shame that I'm now thinking that I'm gonna need more than my 20-gauge at home, but in light of the ignorant things that some desperate people have been doing lately (looting, suicides, stealing lifeboats, shooting at rescue helicopters/workers), I don't know what the hell to expect.
Any suggestions on quick, cheap, reliable firearms for self-defense? I'm thinking at least .45 (and I think I should probably peruse the Firearms forum, if not begin a new thread there altogether).
Steering this thread back into course, looters suck. I honestly can't believe what the hell I've been seeing and hearing.
