How many times would you hit yourself on the hand with a hatchet whilst chopping firewood before a) putting some gloves on or b) holding the wood differently.

From recent personal experimentation, I can say my limit is three times.

On the plus side the hatchet was quite blunt and only drew blood and bruised rather than removing anything important.

However, typing this is still taking a bit longer than normal.

44 did you here on the radio about the robber from Las Vegas.

While in a line up, the whole line up was told to repeat "give me your money or I'll shoot"

The robber pipped up "thats not what I said"

Just goes to show your smarter than some lol

hmmm....Maybe if the hachet had been sharp to begin with, you wouldn't have had to swing it enough times to whack yourself. Assuming, of course, you didn't hit yourself on the first swing!

30MM,

As usual you are bang on the money.

The blade was too blunt to bite properly on the first strike, that's why I was having to lift the log with me other hand to do the splitting blow.

That's why my hand was in the 'firing line'...

I was just too lazy to sharpen it. I guess the subject for the post should have been 'The lazyness/pain threshold'

As a veteran of the firewood wars I have to ask why you were chopping firewood with a hatchet? lol Chainsaw and a machete are definatly the way to go, substitute an axe for the chainsaw if the UK has banned THOSE as well lol

A 9mm MAY expand, but a 45 will NEVER shrink!

LOL with friends like you lot...

The tree was felled and sectioned with a chainsaw.

But we're new to this house and I haven't managed to get a stock of dry wood so I was trying to burn some pretty green stuff and not doing very well.

So I decided to split some of the bigger logs into quarters so they dried quicker on the fire.

That's why I was using the small hand axe in the living room to split the logs, and my hand as it happens

Wait, 44 your chopping wood in the living room?? I'm not an expert on preparing fires but i would think that outside is a better place to do that!

I'm beginning to understand why the UK has so many apparently insurmountable, yet obviously correctable, issues...

You city folk just don't understand the country way of life...

Indoors is the same as outdoors only not so wet.

If I've got two hogs and a stack of manure in the other corner of the room I can't see what harm chopin wood's going to do.

And I've been married to my sister long enough to know she won't complain ...

This is more true than I'd care to admit, if you've never lived out in the boonies it IS a bit of a different world. When my sis lived waaaaaay back in the woods years ago if it was cold out she would drag her goat milking stand into the kitchen lolol.
( I'm sure there is some sort of cold teet joke there somewhere )

I'm surprised Frogger hasn't made it in here yet... he could make one new post a day for a year and still not cover all his exploits...

like the reason we have to watch him very close now when he cooks on a grill...

Boonies is where you check your firewood for squirrel (stash) before throwing it in the fire, walnuts, pecans, or make sure there's no "Sleeping" bugs in there.
Wood roaches have a "Nutty smell" while cooking in Oak,plus they POP!
Who said roaches can live thru Nukes? THEY DONT IN FIREPLACES but niether do lizards.

So, what are you saying Goose- that in the backwoods, bringing in the firewood also means bringing in supper?

Sheesh, I hope we're not supposed to confess our top personal stupidity, I'd have to think a while to figure out just which one would top the list.
