Hey Fender,
I'm not sure now why the system was pulled or even where it had been. I do know we'd installed the entire system that night. I also know that we were surprised as hell to see those live rounds exiting the drum.

Some thing I never did find out was:
1. How no one noticed the live ammo in the drum before us.
2. Why the system wasn't down loaded before removing the drum?
3. Why Glisner's crew when running the Function Test lined up the live ammo with the gun instead of the Dummy rounds that they had to install at the beginning of the test?

Some things we just don't know.

I don't recall if an entry had been made on the ammo placard or not that night, but I do know it was in the forms and pass-on book.

The only reason I can think of as to why the drum was never downloaded before pulling it, was if there had been a gun stoppage that distroyed the belts, which has been know to happen, and the crew pulling the system wasn't able to down load it. Of course that still doesn't answer the questions above.

Ok heres what i know
The gun system was empty when it was installed. A load crew, cant remember which one loaded ammo in the gun. Larry's crew came out to the jet to do the Func Ck but the gun was already loaded. SO to save time they ran the ammo back up into the drum, loaded the 100 dummys and ran them up into the gun. Fired up the APU pulled the trigger, The gun spun the dummys zipped throught the gun alond with a lot of empty spaces and then came the live ammo. Four rds were fire across the ramp right behind a KC-135 that had just landed. The first round hit the dirt between the ramp and runway the third rd hit right at the edge of the ramp three and four hit the ramp about 12-14 feet apart. The jet had tried to jump the rear chocks the nose had dropped down thats why the rounds had hit the ramp

Ok that explanation makes more sense. Someone trying to cut corners and it bit them in the ass. By the way Carl it was 72 dummy rounds required for a gun functional check. :-) However it is still wierd because during the check you first pull the gun pin with just electrical power to ensure the arming selenoid worked. Replace the pin before continuing with hydraulic power on checks.

Hell we had an incident at KFIA with a crew from Alconbury. I knew the 1 man very well and as we were doing two crew ICT's my crew was working with his. Jet rolled in with an unsafe light however EOR had determined it wasn't jammed. This particular 1 man ensured the pin was in then climbed the ladder with engines running, reached into the cockpit with pilot in place and proceeded to arm the gun and pull the trigger. The gun she did spin, the unsafe light was cleared and no rounds were fired. The pilot lost his mind, the CTD went ballistic, I cussed the bastard out. I said Gary if you want to pull that shit again just let me know so I can get my crew and leave the ICT spot.

Goose and some of you others know what was across the runway and directly in front of the spots on King row? Luckily no Army types were killed that day.

A few days later I was on a C-130 with my crew going to Al-Jouf and a whole new set of dumbasses to work with. Can you say Cajun???
