I received a disk with some nice HUD footage on it but my Mover Maker will not open the file. It’s written in a DVD-MPEG format (3.4GIG) and my desk-top doesn’t see it as a DVD or an MGEP file so I can’t “rip” it into a useable format. My laptop sees the file but, imports it into movie maker as a audio file only. I tried a number of things this weekend but nothing seems to work.

Do you think “imaging” the disk into a DVD format might help? I don’t have a DVD writer on my puter but, I guess I could take it to Kinkos or some place like that and have it done. Does anyone know of a way to convert the file(s) to another format using my desktop useing "some type" of program in Windows XP home??

What is the extention name on the file? .mpg .mpeg .avi etc.
By "Movie Maker" do you mean the freebie that comes with WindowsXP? I tried that a long time ago, it works but can be kinda stubborn ( I seem to remember that importing as an audio file thing too ).
I have Honestech Video Editor 5.0 and it has an awful lot of capability, the demo version will only let you import about 5 minits worth, but there are ways around the demos restrictions ;-) havent tried anything as large as 3gig though.

I just opened up a 2.8gig mpeg movie with Honestech like it was nothing. Might be worth trying out:

or I can send you the version I use, it's only 13.9MBs. LOTS and LOTS of fades and wipes available in it, not to mention text and audio.

Something I cobbed up with Honestech from a low quality video I shot with my little digi-cam a couple of years ago, shows just a small percentage of what Honestech can do.
For reasons unknown, putfile cut off the last 5 seconds or so. < shrug >

Boomer, the extension is MPEG and yes I mean the freeby movie maker that comes with XP. It's not a bad little program and it's what I've used to make all my music videos so far.

I'll take a look at the links you provided and see if one will help me out...thanks for the help.
