Al-Qaeda plotter Zacarias Moussaoui is to face life in jail, rather than execution, for his role in the 9/11 attacks, a US jury has decided.

The prosecution had called for the death sentence, arguing that "there is no place on this good Earth" for him.

But defence lawyers successfully argued he should face life in prison, rather than martyrdom through execution.

The judge is bound to hand down the jail sentence. Moussaoui is the only man prosecuted in the US over 9/11.

During six weeks of testimony in a Virginia court, prosecutors had argued he withheld information that could have helped prevent them.

Under cross-examination, Moussaoui said he had "no regret, no remorse" and wished it could be 11 September every day.

Moussaoui was arrested on immigration charges at a flight simulator school in Minnesota in August 2001.

Although he was in jail at the time of the attacks, prosecutors say he told lies to allow the plot to continue.

The verdict in favour of life imprisonment from the jury of nine men and three women was not unanimous.

However, jurors rejected the suggestion - put forward Moussaoui's defence - that the death penalty would help fulfil the defendant's visions of martyrdom.

Sorry to disagree Folks,

That was what he "DIDNT WANT WAS LIFE IN PRISON".
That BS at the end there when he was leaving was his last

It would of been 10-15 years before they'd kill him anyway, you'd give an excuse for the "Terrorist" to carry out more attacks.

Life in Prison no matter what he said is "RIGHT" If they were going to kill him they should of gotten a few "Musliums" in this country to kill him by "Islamic Law" or kill him and put a Pig in his grave after cutting his head-off and burying it somewhere else.

Killing him no matter how "Right it was" in this case would of caused more trouble .

Think about it, If these Radicals are willing to "BLOW THEIRSELFS" -UP, death has no meaning but in a Box 23hours a day, for life and NO SOAPBOX to "tell the world his Shit"

You're right Goose. Prison is best for that asshole. Word has it they are going to put him in the "Super Max" Prison here in Colorado. It's called, "The Alcatraz of the Rockies." All solitary confinement, 23 hours a day.

Personally, I think they should wall up the window of his cell, cut the electricity and leave him in there 24 hours a day to rot. Feed him rotted pork and curdeled milk. Then when he thinks he's getting used to the dark and loneliness and he's half starved, you start dropping fire ants in from a hole in the ceiling. Just 2 or 3 each day. Then you start feeding in spiders. Brown Recluse and Black Widows.

at first I was really upset he didn't get death, but on the way in a radio staion made a great point.

If he got the death penalty, he would have cost the tax payers loads of money for him trying to fight it. That would keep his name in the media and probably hurt the families more who have already suffered.

Getting Life in prison will take him out of the lime lite forever. I can't see anyone ever giving him asylum(sp). Hopefully he serves a long and painful life sentence and becomes a few peoples little bitch <img src=icon_smile_evil.gif border=0 align=middle>
