I surely hope I have overlooked something, but confusion has taken over. I just read a post that someone hopes we don' get a three day weekend? 343 of my fellow fire fighters gave their lives doing things that most people wouldnt even consider. As most were running away they were running into the danger zone. I am not over looking the 2700+ total whose lives ended in the worst tragedy we as Americans have ever suffered. And yes, I am a fire fighter, Chief as matter of fact. Next time you see a fire fighter, police officer, or medic how about saying thanks for what we actually do instead of saying I hope we dont get a three day weekend.

I think the intention of Boomers post was that this aniversary is <b>always</b> remembered <b>because</b> of what happened and does not just become another three day weekend.

In the UK lots of kids don't even know why we have a holiday on Good Friday or Easter and Xmas 'is the day we get presents'.

There is always the danger that if you weren't actually part of the event as your colleagues were or actually watching the newsfeeds, when this generation moves on, the next won't remember <b>why</b>.

That's why we all have a duty to remember and honour those who died that day and send those responsible to hell.

I don't know of a single long timer on this board who would ever disrespect the day or anybody involved in saving lives during it.

My brother in law drove a pumper truck in ( very )downtown Saint Louis for many years, several comendations.
I respect the Fire Fighters the Cops and the Med-techs not just for what they did on 9-11 but for what they do every day. One scene from 9-11 that will always haunt me is that of row after row of ambulances crushed and destroyed when the second tower came down while the various med-techs were in or near the first building, already on scene doing what they do. <S
