Looks like there's a new scam targetting Photographers.

A quick sit-rep is I was contacted by "Mike Zin" through a photography site that already had the harmless info he wanted in my profile, so I just repeated it to him.

...And as of Saturday I've been waiting to see if I get a 500.00 retainer payment, and will then probably be asked to shell out a lot more money as the scam vaguely hints at. <img src=newicons/anim_lol.gif border=0 align=middle> <img src=newicons/Whatever_anim.gif border=0 align=middle>

Deola Sagoe Couture (African based designer) is in need of photographers with great attitude/ creativity in the USA to work for a period of 6 days shooting models who would be modeling Wedding gowns /suits at an International Fashion Week in New York City slated for the month of October.
I work as a Human Relations and Recruitment Official attatched to the Fashion Industry and my job is to decide who gets the job done.

Deola Sagoe Couture fashions is officially based in Africa and has decided to employ your services as it would be rather expensive to fly our photographers all the way to the USA just for a week duration.
Here is a detailed arrangement of your job requirements and payment plan…

1.) You must be willing to travel to NYC for a week. You shall arrive 2 days prior to the start of the Fashion Week. I shall provide you with specific dates and Hotel Address in the near future. All transportation costs (to and fro your location) shall be handled by us. Accommodation at a decent hotel shall be provided as well. I do not know your feeding arrangements but light breakfast and dinner shall be served on our bill at the hotel as well.
2.) Arrangements for room shall be made on arrival. You shall rise from bed at 7.00 am latest and join your colleagues at the hotel lounge before 9.00 am daily. Hours for daily shows have not been officially fixed and as such we cannot disclosed that at the moment.
3.) Please email me your samples of photo shots taken by you if you are interested and a resume.
4.) We have a budget of about $2,000 - $2,500 for each chosen photographer. Agencies can be quite expensive and this is why I am contacting you directly. I would like you to know that advance payment of $500 and Money Orders would be purchased and mailed to your address soon as you are chosen for the job to book and confirm your services.
5.) I am contacting you soon enough to guarantee we have an agreement with you in good time so you can schedule your time in advance to avoid any disappointments.
6.) If for any reason the Fashion show is postponed, then I am sure we can discuss on a better plan to suit the situation.
7.) TAKE NOTE THAT FUNDS MIGHT BE SENT TO YOU IN EXCESS AS WE MIGHT BE PROVIDING YOU WITH FUNDS FOR YOUR TRANSPORTATION TO NEWYORK AND YOUR HOTEL BILL AS WELL.
8.) IF PLANS CHANGE AND WE RETAIN THE DECISION TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS FOR YOUR ACCOMODATION AND TRANSPORTATION,….YOU WOULD BE REQUIRED TO WIRE THE EXCESS FUNDS VIA WESTERN UNION TO ONE OF OUR AGENTS WHOSE INFORMATIONS I WOULD PROVIDE YOU WITH IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
9.) Lastly, if your are interested, Please forward me with the following informations to me ASAP ,so I can contact the Public Relations Officer in the USA to issue and mail out deposit payment which starts our contract together.

thats nothing. ive quite familiar with these scams, 419 if i remember correctly is what their called. i had a friends wife who was trying to sell her Impala, she put it online and all that jazz. she gets an "offer" to pay over 5 grand for it and is sending a Cashiers Check the next day.

so were sitting around and she "accidentally" tells me this story. i told her instantly that it was a scam, she wouldnt listen to me. so i got in her face, called her an F-ing B-word and other swears saying if you cash the check, you'll lose alot of money and your car.

i also told her that since the check is on the way, they have her address and there will be a truck coming to pick the car up. so sure enough, a few days later, my friend gets home from work and there is a truck in his driveway waiting for him, he tells the driver he knows nothing about it and he must have the wrong address.

they have the $15,000 "check" framed and hanging on their wall

I usually mail back a simple yet bluntly offensive insult when i get these scams.

I did that once and the "Nigerian Royalty" (with a .ru e-mail address) replied, thanked me for agreeing to help him, and then tell him my account number.

I in all sincerity don't have one, since I just started a small business and the bank would of picked four dollars from my account every month, while I'm trying to make it profitable.

But I was planning to start a new account with that cashiers check, or whatever they might send to retain my services, stall the scammers if need be, then close the account as soon as I can.

That and wait for the Police, FBI, Better Business Bureau, or whoever they might report me to to come & scold me for ripping off some third world con artists.
