It is really sad to see all of these Heros pass on.

AS part of my duties here, I participate in funeral details. Just Friday, I did a detail for a Pearl Harbor survivor. About two months ago, I did one for a veteran of the sunk USS Helena during WW2. He was marooned for two weeks before he was rescued.

I wish I could start finding veterans and taking oral histories, but I am just to timid/respectful to ask them their stories.

And <img src=newicons/smiley_salute.gif border=0 align=middle> for my uncle who slipped the surley bounds Sat. A career USAF radio/electronics guy, who apparently did things during the Cold War and 'Nam we'll never know about.

Go to you local VFW or American Legion, VA hosptial or VA nursing home and you will get some stories, I guarantee it. These old Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen want to talk to someone that is willing to listen.

Have to agree with this one Fender!
My Father is a former Commander of a V.F.W., while my Mom served as pretty much the only bartender in the joint in the time he was commander!

Although being a small town in Southern Illinois, we had our fair share, if not more than our fair share of highly decorated guys from WWII, Korea, Vietnam.
Some of the stories I have heard or have been told of by my Dad can sometimes give you shivers!
When I was stationed at Aviano, there was an old guy we spoke with in a local watering hole from time to time.
He had been thru all of the European stuff since Hitler and the internment camps. Spoke like 7 or 8 different languages and would talk and tell stories until their was noone around to listen!

Of course we stayed and listened as long as we could afford to buy him drinks! LOL
