I would love to know how much shit the f-16 sqadron commanders got when the hogs turned in 2 air to air kills, the f-14 got one, the f-18's got a few, and hell even the EF-111 got a kill. But of all the aircraft on this list the slow ugly hog had to have the last laugh.

None. When routing to the battle space at 35K You dont See shit skimming the deck at 500 Feet, and the Radar Angle doesnt see it either unless the pilot decides to slew the radar down. once loitering at 20K Looking for targets via Groundmapping, Contacts faster than x amount of speed get ignored by the filtering algorythems. No Target Pods were used by 16s either. The ones the 421St had were given to the Mount Spud F15E's that were just barely mission qualed 2 months prior to the conflict in WWG1. Secondly It was straight 80's Hunt by IR Mav as a poor man Ir Search Tool. A bit difficult to make sense of a Burning 50 Gallon Drum, a Soaked in the sun Dead Tank or an operating tank at 20K....unless its moving on a MSR..At night...and you have been following it or broadsiding it..even then.. If your using it, your below 15K Hunting...
The Air Planners made an altitude cap, so much of patroling was left at 15-20K to stay out of the manpad and other Threat Envelopes.
If the airplanners had allowed for Lower hunting Altitudes. I think the story would have been much differnt. There was 8 Times the number of 16s to A10's operating in the battlespace.
I would look at the mission types etc. The 16s were hunting desert shield stage, way forward of the Border attriting emplaced forces. Things that are easily seen at 20K, Trenches, Burms, Mass units on the move, Facilities. You can degrade bomb the shit out of that all day long.
The A10s were conducting CAS and manuever support and arrived during the time previous to the offensive. And those helicoptrs that go nailed were during the period of forces fleeing.
A10 has another advantage. it is Slow, which means helicopters are easier to pick out Visually. In a fighter at 450 Knots Plus, a 70 Knot helicopter looks like a non moving rock, You really have to nearly T Bone one to see it. Or catch it on the scope.
The A10 However has to look for helicopters, its one of its prime threats due to the nature of the altitude it works in. and the hide and peek ability of the Attack Helo.
A10 Pilots are looking for them as a state of mind. Its a differnt mission working Topography as compared to doing the strike mission.
