When I was there, there was one crew chief who was command sponsored and was allowed to bring his family and live off base, BUT... There was another one or two guys who brought their families anyway (All these guys did 1 yr tours). Since you still collect BAH for wherever your dependants are living, bring them to Korea, then tell finance where they are, and you will collect BAH for the area. Here's the catch: Just because they are living there doesn't mean you will automatically be allowed to live off-base with them (although the guys I knew were, it's not gauranteed). Also, If you are not authorized to bring them with you on your orders, their airfare there is out of your pocket, not the AF's. I remember talk about if you go there first, then a month later fly them there the AF will pay you back, or you can get approval while over there, also weird rules about when they leave... Like you said, the rules constantly change.
They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order.
