I am new to this forum, but have always admired the utility of the A-10 in every conflict it has been in. I wonder how many are still active in the regular airforce and guard and reserve? What, about 700 or so were built in the late '70s/early '80s, and about 183 populate the desert at Davis Mothan. What about future aircraft to fill the role of close support anti-tank, long loiter, heavily armored and armed? Will this incredable aircraft fade away into history without a proper replacement? IMHO, the F-35 is NOT a proper replacement... I tried a search if this had been covered here, but it produced nothing. Sorry if it has been covered.

The Warthog gets an update over the next couple years. It gonna be turned into the A-10c (a is the version what fly now and b model is never used). They have to get to update so they can fly till 2028.
Maybe the changed the idea, in the future, for one plane the must do everything.

Salute Dutchy

Lemme fix that a little Dutchy:

A model- current version in service today
B model- Test version of the first DT&E aircraft. No production models built. One test model built and flown.
C model- Coming soon.

Let me also tweek the info a little. The "B" model was the first DT&E aircraft built (which later became an "A" model) but was also turned into the only NAWS (two seater) aircraft in 1979. Jackb, I think that's what you mean but, you didn't say the two-seat NAWS so some may not know that.

How did you read into my mind? I hadn't even posted anything in this thread.

They say that the only two things certain in life are death and taxes. I prefer them in that order.

You would just be thinking F-stops and shudder speeds to get the best shot of the aircraft itself. <img src=icon_smile_approve.gif border=0 align=middle>
