Can anyone give me all the tail codes that 166 has had ? I believe it came from Barksdale but I want to now for sure. All I have is MA for Mass and FS for her future home. Dice or Goose ya got any words of wisdom for me ? I am trying to get the door prepped for her departure in a couple months.

Hawg166, your jet was delivered to the 23rd TFW on 1 July 1981, I don't have the squadron but, I'm sure Goose can fill you in on that. It move to Barksdale on 29 Oct 1991 assigned to the 47th TFGSQ. It then moved to your unit on 13 Oct 1993.

While at Barksdale it made a couple of unit changes which I believe was due to the changes in the AF at that time. I show it assigned to the 47TFG(SQ) when it arrived at the unit but changed to the 46TFT(SQ) for a couple of years and then back to the 47th FTR(SQ) in eary 1993.

Hope this helps and keep me informed on the transfer, would like to have a few pics as some of your jets leave for their new unit...end of an era..begining of a new type of thing.

That could be a difficult one to research, a serials book did have 166 listed with MA in 97, but I suppose it could of been somewhere else after the closure of England AFB and before MA, or did it come from the 23rd TFW at England straight to Barnes?

Ooops, just read Dice's post

The AFTO 95 should have the exact dates for every move it has made.

80-0166 has carried the \"EL\" tail code for England AFB 23rrd TFW/ 76th TFS

Then it went to Barksdale , has that info same as I got just never found out Who the Crew Chief was, then on to you Billy.

I'm only missing the \"1 st CrewChief's name (I cant remember) but I met him once when MB flew their wing in for a Hurricane.
Then \"Spud\" had her after him, then \"Swamp Bird\" I was his ACC for 4 months . Dave and I had 2653 at first, but when GUNSMOKE 85 came we swapped out with Tony in MAY 85 , and I took over as DCC in Oct after I came back with 0166 from NTC when Dave went to MOC.

Then \"Mack\" or 80-0248\"as he is on the board took her over on Feb-27th 1991 at KFIA when I went home.
0166 broke right slat actuator the day it was going home, so it came home with the \"Cajuns\" back to EAFB.
Then like Dice said from there to Barksdale on to you Billy

But at EAFB 80-0166 was always a 76th TFS bird with the \"EL\" tail code and a RED TAIL CAP with 7 white stars 2 being on the rudder then the \"76th\" and 5 more white stars (thats going left to right)

Confirmed Kills as of Feb 27,th 1991

TANKS - 27
(FROGS)- 3
AAA /ART- 18
TRUCKS- 33
APC - 14
RADAR SITES -3
MIG-21 - (on ground)
MIG-25 - (on ground both MIG's on FEB 16,1991

That was the count when I left that Morning of the 27th. I had to find me copy of \"Red Storm Rising\" I used it for my Travel times, kills, just basic notes.

That really SUCKS she's leaving you Billy between both of us we've been her Longest serving DCC'sand CrewChiefs.
Who ever gets Her I hope they take as GOOD OF CARE of Her that you HAVE, She's a Combat Veteran of \"2 wars\" and her AFOU ribbion (If they let the Jets keep them) would have a \"V\" on it from Desert Storm and Oak leafs she earned with you Billy.

So if anyone laughs at about Guys being attached to a Jet, go ahead but that Hog has a \"Soul\" of some sort , Thats Why I had \"Father Ray\" bless her in May of 1986 at Leck AB Germany.

Thats quite a kill tally Goose!
Was 166 involved in that record breaking tank killing mission by 'Fish' and 'Marks'?
Makes me want to dust off my copy of Warthog and read about the Hogs GW1 exploits again.
I can see how you guys get sentimental over these jets,
The great thing about this board for a Hog fan on the outside looking in, is reading all the stories from down the years, excellent stuff.

The old girl just came back with a slep wing, She's in acceptance right now. There are a few issues, but I'll get through them. I just thought it would be nice to have FS166 added to Snoopy's scarf along with the MA. Its my way of trying to make the door welcome in hopes it will stay around as is for a while.
I didnt realize you got a \"V\" for the first Gulf War. I gues that means she can wear two of them. I hate the fact that she missed our trip to Trappani in 1998. We flew a lot over in Kosovo abd that would have been a nice add. But she had just rolled into phase with 3hours left before 400 the day we got activated. I didnt even get a chance to argue, they just used her for a cann bird. She made it over to Kosovo, but most of her was in the supply system.

I'm glad she's home Billy, the \"Old Girl\" has had her Bumps and Hits.

BB no she didnt get into that \"Fray\" but they were our pilots from our Squadron the 76TH.
If I remember right its hard to believe EITHER 79-9181 or 79-9197 were are \"Tank Killers\" in A Flights Hogs but both came in with Battle Damage and 9181 is in the Desert somewhere, and Pat's folks brought 9197 home in a FRED.
BFLIGHT had some big tank killers too, But the 76th TFS/AMU got the \"AFOU with a \"V \"for Desert Storm and a Ribbion for Cornet Warrior III so I dont know how many clusters in all that she would have total with your units.

Send her to Fort Smith with her \"Total Tank Kills\" from both Wars and a AFOU
with her \"Twin V's and clusters\" on her Ribbion

Screw the Reg's. She deserves at least that much respect.

My favorite Story about 80-0166 is during the second week of fighting she had been having INS trouble and they got it fixed, but right after she hit the first Tanker her Radio went out, she could transmit but not receive but \"Mad Dog\" let his number 2 take over lead and kept on with the 4 ship into Iraq.
They hit their targets but got into some SAM trouble so his Head was a
\"Mad swivel\" looking as he pulled out of his attack all of the Sudden He heard
\"BREAK !!!!!!!!!
He said \"He automatically broke right\" not even knowing if it was for him or who called it out.
As he \"Broke right a SAM went right past 0166's wing just missing him.\"

I just remember him after he shut down the jet, he was \"Pale and EXCITED\" at the same and said \"Goose your Radios are a piece of SHIT! but YOUR JET SAVED MY ASS!!
His wing came over and he told Ard, Auddie and Myself the story and Then his wing man told us seeing the SAM and yelling into the RT \"BREAK,BREAK\" and seeing the SAM come right at 166 and all of a sudden at the last second he BROKE RIGHT! and seeing the SAM just miss 0166.I told him \"I told you not to worry She Knew what to do,and would bring you home safe. Beside Father Ray guaranteed it :D

When \"RT \" went out to check the radios they were \"Dead\" and couldnt figure out how he heard anything.

So believe what you want, either he has a Guarding Angel, or what I believe the truth is \"The Old Girl\" has her own Guarding Angel

He would always try to fly 0166 after that day.
