BB, I believe all the mods/upgrades have been talked about at one time or another on this forum, I don't know what we could add to the story with was not covered in the article.

So my favourite airplane will remain flying afterall? Now that's way cool! I just love the way it looks like an anachronism flying among other modern warplanes, loitering around with its straight wings like a WWII ground attack airplane and shooting stuff up with it's autocannon.

Sorry, that is a dutch word (Anachronisme) I thought it also existed in english. An anachromism means something that exists outside its proper time frame, like a cart and horse driving through the streets of new york that's doing an actual job, like deleivering postal packages. If you catch that, you saw an anachronism.

That word does exist, it's just a rarely used one. I was just making fun of your use of a complex word in the same sentence as the A-10.

I image complex words are frequently used in the same sentence as A-10's, by insurgents without luck for instance: \"muhemmedjihadmujahedeenyellalabadayayayaaaai A-10! \" Or in english: \"Oh bugger.\"

I really love firing the autocannon too. That's the bestest part of flying the A-10! Autocannons are sweet. Almost as sweet as thrusterboosters, but we don't have those.

Its just a bit of an inconvenience when the 'auto-cannon' goes off whilst flying in the circuit......I mean pattern

I've let my own thread creep

Hmm.. Is there something I misunderstood somewhere? You know I borrwed the term 'autocannon' from Warhammer 40k and I think maybe that was mistake. I found out that the proper term for a spinning machine gun would be 'minigun', like the one used by Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator II.

Here you see an autocannon in action in W40k: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UID6LEzvRRo

It's being wielded by the big bipedal mech, my favorite military unit of all time and one of the reasons I love A-10's.

P.S. I would give an introduction to W40k but I won't bother - A-10's are the real thing and therefore much cooler.

The proper term for the GAU-8A “Avenger” cannon is a gating gun because of it‘s 7 barrels (with 7 breaches) and rotational firing mechanism.

That'll teach me to just assume something is right when I read it in a gamer's forum. Turns out the Dreadnaught's autocannon has 6 barrels, 1 breach and 1 firing mechanism. The rotating barrels are there to distribute heat production over 6 barrels.

I'd like to take a moment to ask a rediculous question: Is there a hand held version of the GAU-8A?

It looks like a cigarette. Is that why they call it Hawgsmoke? But seriously, I need to keep this glow in mind when I animate my A-10.

Please don’t have the gun glow red in your movie, that would not be right. Notice the picture states this is what the gun looks like after firing 1350 rounds (a full drum) in one firing. This has never happen (to my knowledge) in the history of the A-10. This gun also didn’t have the cooling air a gun has during real operations and was a “test to failure” and is not represent of real operations.
