Well, I know the pilot and he wrote me,

I think it went down the engine, but our engine are chew things up and spit them out.(...)

Now a Turkey Buzzard hitting the nose THATS A BIRD STRIKE!,4 months to repair that damage.

maybe it was a cardinal behind the Hog, he flashed his headlights and honked the horn, said screw it, went around him, mouthed "A-Hole" to the pilot and proceded to sideswipe him.

Theres not a Military pilot out there that hasnt ate a bird at least once in his career.

Any low level flying can be a nightmare in congested waterfowl or other avian areas.

The Hawks out at the goldwater, Nellis and UTTR are notorious with their sacrifices.


My second year in OV-10s down in Korea, I hit a buzzard or a condor, Not sure which, but it looked like i Just flew through some old ladys clothes line! It ripped the cowling off and hit with such an amount of force that it Busted engine mounts, and i nearly Lost the engine, All i could do was stare in awe...Holy Shit!
I was so Green i had no clue to the concequence, but the Major sitting behind me was screaming bloody murder.."Shut it down! you stupid bastard".. I suppose starring at a 3 Blade Turboprop trading parts 3 feet from your crew station with only a canopy and aluminumn the thickness of a beer can to protect you, can really motivate an aircrew during an emergency. We Cleared the mountain and I easily made a forced landing on a dirt Farm Road. I think I was more terrified with the Farmer pointing a rifle at me than the Major Tuning my ass up for the 3 hours we waited for the Army to pick us up. Allot of things could of went wrong that day.. you end up on the wrong side of the DMZ, you take AAA or a Heater up your ass, you press into some of the South Korean Restricted areas, Yo can take AAA or a heater up the ass..No questions asked.

Thats the messed up thing about aviation, the more experiance you have the more you understand the concequences..it really gives you too much to think about in an emergency...That becomes the true test of an aviator. Learning how to put all the evils out of your mind and Getting back Home alive and hopefully with an intact aircraft.

How are you doing Lady???? Been a \"Coon's Age\" since we last heard from you.

You can see alot of NEW ones since you last were on, some you probably remember too from England AFB.

For those who \"Haven't had the Pleasure of meeting Trickylil , she was a Vanguard back in the day and a Comm/Nav/Avonics troop / and a \"Honorary Crew Dawg\" , Helping Launch and Recover, Refuel, putting covers on whatever you needed, and never had to be told too or asked, She just did it.

Tricky you wouldn't by chance be talking about \"Old Woody's\" jet 193? The one that the Buzzard smashed the nose in then went down the #1 engine. Depot repair but a CANX bird for months before they could get there.
Or when \"Vanguard 1\" a certain 2 Star General last I remember who manged to take out \"Both Vertical Stabs\", hitting a Pair of \"Turkey Buzzards\" with 9176 just a small hole in #2 Stab size of a \"16\" softball but #1 wasn't as lucky, just about knocked the tail cap off the Stab, put a rip in the Stabs leading edge.

If He wasn't such a Great pilot ,I don't think he could of landed it , plus that \"Angel\" over his Shoulder .
The Rudder, tail cap,skin on the leading edge, actuator, Hydraulic lines, plus wiring all had to be repaired or replaced.
#2 we just had to \"Clean out the GUTS\" and patch the hole.

So if 79-9176 is still flying and Depot didn't get bored you should still be able to see the patch jobs today.
