I would be interested in knowing how often the gun of the A-10 needs to be checked and "harmonized" - especially when the plane does regular sorties to a war area.
And when the gun is fired in the "range" or "firing in butt" site do pilotes use DU ammunition? and how many rounds are fired?

I am a real estate investor and I am interested in buying a field which is part of a former air base in Hungary and I learned that A-10 planes were stationed here - and as you probably know there were many public debates about these types of weapons - so I would like to know, and would also be very interested in your opinion!!

During combat they have a party mix of API, HE, and DU

Not to hard to upkeep the gun. Mainly it's a slap a little grease and oil and it and send it out kind of thing. It goes in for minor inspection every couple years as well as a mandatory parts time change at certain round count intervals. Kind of like changing the oil in your car every 3k miles before it gives you problems. Barrel life is tracked seperately and changed when certain rounds limits are reached. You pull the gun far more times for it being in someone elses way or it blocks access to flight controls, hydraulic lines and other not gun stuff.

Wow a easy to maintain, inexpensive airborne weapons system in a modern us air craft. Some thing tells me somebody at MIT wants to replace it with a laser that is 25% as reliable at 100 times the cost.

also A-10's aren't ground fired in anyway for targeting. all adjustments are done airborne. The gun will shoot to the same point the HUD symbol is changed to point of impact.

Now - it seems stranger and stranger, this source of mine, from whom I learned about this issue, was just telling me that one of the planes stationed at the airbase fired of the remaining DU rounds within the air base after the whole mission was over.
I really feel a little confused and would need to have at least some clear point of view before going on with this deal.
Do you think such a thing could happen? And does the Air Force do environmental assessment of air bases?

nyirim there is a concerted effort amongst many europeans to make the americans out the be evil of the world and state that DU has no place as a weapons. I would check your source out very closely. There seems to be no rational explanation for wasting DU rounds at the end of a mission. From what Dice and other say here those rounds are closely monitored and use is tracked.

But if you feel uncomfortable with your deal walk a way like a good capitalist. Capitalism requires you to do due dilligence beyond a website. You need to go to the base if you have this doubt inspect what your are buying bring in the giger counter if you so worried. It is kind of like buying a used car, the dealer is only gonna tell you so much. Do your own home work, so you dont get screwed.
