I was just wondering because when I cam in WAY back in 87 I crewed 80-0271 for about a year, That acft went to gunsmoke in 89 and I lost it. I then picked up 80-0205 until I left in 90. I went to the beach and worked TEMS/Eng while I was there, but when Pope opened up I got 205 back, Wellthen Moody opend up and they transfered 205 to Moody, I got to crew it there again, so I believe I had about 8 or so years on 1 acft, boy i knew that plane up and down. Has anyone else had that privildige?

I started out on A-10s around 1983. Worked them on and off till about a year ago. I figure I've touched about 3/4's the jets out there at one time or another. Some still flying, some on display and sadly some in the boneyard.
Working tankers now.....snore.

I came in in Jan 1986 and worked Hawgs till 1996 (DM, Woodbridge/Bentwaters, Shaw). Then in 1996 I crossed to F-15's (Mountain Home, Sheppard). I just hit 18 years 6 days ago. :)

Jb, I know I shouldnt be in this thread but, I remember seeing 271 and 205 together at my local airshow at Biggin Hill in June 90.
They had been brought in for a static display by Tim McDonald and Tyrone Floyd of the Blue Streaks, I've got a couple of pictures of the jets, well the noses anyway, and the tail of 205.

Oh Bits youve beeen to Biggin Hill ? At this moment I am living vicariously through you.
We had a crew chief who just retired that accepted 80-642 from the factory in 1980 with 13 hours on it. He crewed that jet for almost 24 years.

I don't know how to take that reply Hawg!
Biggin is my nearest airfield, it means alot to us Brits, it was probably the most famous Battle of Britain base.
The airshows were always well supported by the 81st TFW during the Hog years.

When I started my history degree I studied alot of bios from the Battle of Britain. My favorite will always be of Roland Robert Stanford Tuck. I tries to name one of my boys Stanford but Amie wouldnt hear of it. Anyway I have always wanted t go to Biggin Hill. Whne I honeymooned on the island I wanted desperatly to go but the wife put the screws to that plan. I understand that there is a pub not far from the field; it has a wall of slate signed by all the pilots from the battle. Some of them being Tuck, Finucane, Malan, Bader etc etc.
I have spent alot of time around Europe but I consider Biggin Hill to be the highest on my must see list before they hall my carcas away.

By this time tomorrow I shall have gained either a pearage or Westminster Abbey........Nelson

Hawg,The pub is about 7 miles from the drome at Brasted.
Unfortunately there is only a replica of the chalkboard with the signatures on it, the original is held in a museum.
The airfield these days is kept alive by biz jets and the flying schools.....and the yearly Air Fair.
If you do make it over for a visit, the small chapel at Biggin Hill is worth a look.
They have a nice supply of ghosts as well!
I learnt to fly a few years back (sadly not at Biggin) and most of my flying is in the Kent skies where the bulk of the Battle of Britain took place, thankfully I only encounter other light aircraft and not a bloody great horde of 109s!
Bob Stanford-Tuck was born a few miles away from me in Catford South London, the book detailing his career Fly for Life is excellent.

I SPENT MY FIRST 3 MONTHS AT ENGLAND AFB (4-85) ON 82-2653 THEN IT WENT TO SPUD FOR GUNSMOKE I GOT 80-0166 AND CREWED IT THE REST OF THE 6 YRS AT EAFB.MACK TOOK IT OVER WHEN I LEFT KFIA THE LAST OF FEB91.
THEN SOME HOW HAWG166 FINALLY GAVE HER A HOME WITH THE MASS GUARD.

Tuck's Luck...Very interesting character. Wasn't he the one that put a 20mm round directly down the barrel of an AA gun immediately before he was shot down and captured?

Yea that was him according to his bio. He was also the pilot that landed dead stick in a cemetery without hitting a single tombstone. It is by far the best pilot bio I have ever read. I tried to find a copy of his obituary after his death. I try to gather as many of them from the papers as I can when i learn of a pilot going home to rest. I have Zemke's, Boyington's, Steinhoff's, Doolitle's and a few more. Unfortunately I was never able to find Tuck's.
In the late 80's when I visiting Israel while in the Navy, I tried to find the tomb of Buzz Buerling sometimes known as the Falcon of Malta. I never did find his either.

Lets see...worked the A-10 from 1995 to when I got out in 1998...worked F-15s from 1999 to 2001 when I moved to the quality office...still in the quality office, but now I'm mainly an analyst...don't get to the acft much anymore....
