Coach....whatever dude...<hr height=1 noshade id=quote></BLOCKQUOTE id=quote></font id=quote><font face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" size=2 id=quote>

Yeah. Wish you were in one of the squadrons at Pope back about 7 years ago and said that. That would've been entertaining to watch, hehe.

Nothing personal, but regardless of your FAIP time, you're an FNG cherry in this jet, it'd do well to listen to some of those in the CAF that are in the know.

I've only got a little while left in the Bulldogs, and I won't miss the deployments too much (3rd), including the one I'm getting to RTB from soon.

You coming out of the 57th or 58th? I'll have to ask Diesel or Paddy how things are going.

Training is OK at best at DM, but once you learn every DMPI on N/S/ETAC, the training value starts to wither. There's only so many low FRAs you can draw for each range. Korea is OK, but you'll soon see the SKTs that come out of there. We had FACs coming out of there that'd never fired rockets in a FAC scenario before, one in particular his first time being in an ORE here.....I could go on.

BL: Learn all you can when you can and from as many people as you can. "Whatever dude...." isn't the best attitude.

Ive heard that the Korea exchanges with Ak are becomeing more prevalent just for that very reason. It's a sad state of affairs when a unit cant check off training squares, do to ops area/Training range shortcomings.

Don't get too high and mighty just yet. You can change DM in the above statement to any A-10 base and the range names to their respective ranges and say the same thing. There is no base in the world you can be stationed at and get new and different scenarios and training every place you go. Every range has its limitations as far as the regs are concerned, but once you comply with those, your training is only limited by your imagination.

No high and mighty here Giant. I'm at DM, and you'll notice that I'm simply pointing out that it's no better or worse than any other place, and surely isn't an end-all-be-all by any stretch of the imagination. Our OREs from hell schedule should say that. Still wondering why we're having a Phase I/II a little less than three weeks from when we get back? To prove we can deploy?

You don't have to tell me. I would never last in the IG. God forbid a successful full deployment (especially one to actual combat) be proof that a unit is combat-ready. <img src=newicons/anim_cussing.gif border=0 align=middle>

You ain't kidding. The ORE issue, combined with the crazy number of Air Warrior I/II, Flag, maybe WSEP TDYs, all prior to the next deployment, make's you feel like you must be the only A-10 unit in the entire CAF. And speaking of OREs, they don't even really seem to replicate the missions and types of combat we're currently fighting.

Type 7:

What you don't like the ORE's!? LOL

I thought we were having the ORI when we got back? Just so we can "prove we can deploy"! Maybe I'll get lucky and pull another Hot Pit slot.

How is Paddy doing? Haven't seen him since his Fini in 274.

Type 7...you are absolutely right about my attitude in that post. Out of line. I do respect Coach and his point of view and look forward to seeing assignments at the other bases.

I personally believe that I will not be limiting my A10 experience compared to any of the other available locations. I have pretty much no A10 experience right now (unless you want to count B course rides) and have TONS to learn. Anywhere and everywhere I go will be new. Korea should be a great place to learn and then when I come back here deployments will probably still be going strong. That might sound like it sucks... but that is the job I want to do. If you never go somewhere and do what you train for then what the hell good did it do to practice hitting all the DMPIs on the ranges? Coach also pointed out that all the units deploy - wherever I go I can do that.

I did not tout myself as some guy who has been around the block since I was a faip. In fact, the only mention I made of it in this thread is in mentioning that it was not, nor would it now be, my first choice of assignments but I still found a couple positives.

Anyway, where are you headed next? I'm in the Dragons, flew with Diesel once. We have about one month or so left.

Haven't heard that name in a while! Although I wouldn't get him mad. He seems very understated, but I've seen him get angry a time or two. It wasn't very pretty.

No one messes with the Diesel. Quiet on the outside, but angry on the inside....with a short fuze to boot!

I heard my name was being slandered on this sight....Type 7 knows full well not to mess with Diesel, he has the scars to prove it. I think HAS 7 at Al Jaber still has his blood splattered on the wall.

After reading the above commentary, I felt compelled to respond. Luke you are a good pilot, but Type 7 is right. As unfair as it may seem you will be just another new B course graduate. Your prior time may get you out of being the Snacko, but don't forget your new rank is "A-10 Wingman" period. Your respect will now be earned by how well you listen and perform on the wing. As you yourself said, the A-10 community is very small, so be careful. What you probably didn't know is that "Coach" is a Legend in the community....by far the most experienced and respected A-10 pilot flying. Hell, I haven't even met him in person, but just about every Hogdriver knows of him. What guys think of you can make a huge difference, and stories spread like wildfire even from base to base. Take coache's advice, and then when you get to Osan, find the crustiest, old, Major or LtCol and find out what they know. Once you get past the hardass facade, you will find that most of them actually love teaching you the ways of this business.

As for Type 7, what he forgot to mention is that the ranges at DM have moving human targets. He is responsible for rounding up around 50 of them in his 3 year tenure. When he's not killing "gook's in the wire" in Afghanistan, he's busy fighting forest fires and moonlighting as a vigilante border patrol "federal officer".

Type 7 had 23 confirmed in 2003! He also was supposed to take me out there before we left.

Type 7: You ever get that Holster so you can carry that D.E. on you in the cockpit?

Thanks to all...no kidding. I do learn quite a bit here. Do I really come across as expecting some sort of special treatment? If so then I am sorry. I really do not feel that way at all. I had a different point of view and responded poorly. That is it. I know as much as anyone else sitting in the back seat and watching countless closed patterns being flown by someone else does not earn too much. I will state again that I know I have TONS to learn and I apologize for being rude.

No apology required, Luke. Just press on learning to be the best ATTACK pilot you can, but keep in mind that even though you have quite a few flying hours, you are still a "Captenant", a NUG wingman that knows little to nothing about what we do. Just don't be a SNAP and all will be fine. Be in position, on the right freq and ready to kill and you'll be doing fine.

And remember, you can answer just about any question in a debrief with one of three responses:

- 1.69 times something
- about 50 mils
- it depends

ATTACK!
